My Vision has a whine from the rear when I am going around curves. The faster I go or more lean angle I have it is louder. It is quiet otherwise. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? The bike has 2300 miles on it.

Thanks

i have the same sound at the same time. I contributed it to harmonics radiationg off the ashpault, since its much more noticeable on the pully side.....hope I am right

Check the outside edge of the tire you might find tire cupping .

Tires...left side is worn to no grooves hence no sound. Right side still has some and there is harmonics on right turns.

I don't notice any at low speed, I think it starts around 45-50mph. I hope it is not the tire, not had the bike for 2 months yet. I will play with the belt adjustment and see if that will help. Back to work tomorrow so it will have to wait. I am running 40psi, no cupping.

Its the tire. No worries. The more miles you get on it, the more pronounced on corners it will be. Put on loud pipes, and it will go away. My tire at 17,000 miles still does it.-------Metalguy.

Glad someone asked this, I just noticed this a few weeks ago and thought I was going nuts because I had never heard it before. Makes sense though.

Very characteristic of the Dunlop E3 to the point I heard folks complain about it. Me? I like it on mine, no problems and it lets me know as long as they are whining, I won't be...

I had this issue last year. Turned out to be the belt (too tight).

I have noticed a pronounced whine/howl at low speed since about 4,000 miles. Dealer mechanic said tire cupping is the cause. The wear doesn't seem very uneven except for the raised center ridge that appeared on both front and rear. I've read Dunlop says this ridge occurs due to their use of a harder rubber compound in the center.

Now that I think of it, I do get a high pitch whine when riding two up, especially the faster I go in the lean. Sometimes it turns into a loud thumping noise in my helmet as well as "If you don't slow this thing down now I'm never riding with you ever again.."

You're right varyder. I get that same high speed whine and thumping too--only when riding two up. Dealer says that's normal for the Visions.

I just removed my Ness Big Honkers after Daytona this year and noticed the whine when I went to S1L1. I also remember reading that the GoldWings have these tires too and have the same sound.

+1 for metalguy, if you want the noise gone, drown it with a loud pipes.

I also have some scalloping / cupping on my tires. This is normal wear and an indicator of the tires working. A good read on tire wear over here: http://www.rattlebars.com/valkfaq/tirewear/

yup E3's will whine on turns ,the harder you lean them they more the talk. my goldwing as stated did the same thing and the vision has started it . I inspected the tires to see slight cupping very hard to see at the early stage but will get easyer to see as miles rack up . A belt on these beast talk to as well but not the same sound i have had both problem the belt comes and goes as the weather changes . Oh the rear seat will whine and thump as well under fast and fun riding.lol

I occasionally get a karate chop too. I am seeing if there is a recall on this.

I have a high pitched whine only at high speeds. No tire cupping, in fact they are wearing very well so far. It only happens when I am riding two up. It turns out the whining is my wife shouting to slow down!

Yah, I generally leave my high pitched whine at home!
I've had the bike serviced in Seattle, Rapid City, and Pleasenton, and got three different ideas on the ideal belt tension. It squeeks or squeels somewhat no matter what the tension. Belt dressing helps as do the Ness mufflers.

i had belt squeeks, the guys in Cumming Georgia got a new pully, put it on under warrenty, and I've had not a sound out of it after 4000+ miles. The dealer here in Cumming GA has to be one of the best.

Thanks, Jeffmack, I'll talk to the guys at Arlen's in Pleasanton about a new pulley.
