| I am in the process of purchasing a 2009 Tour premium and during the negotiating process I wanted to purchase the GPS mount and have the dealer install it. He told me that the last one they instaaled was a 4 and half hour installation. My number one question is I am not paying over 300 dollars in dealer services for this mount. Is this something that is not that difficult to do myself? I plan on picking up the Garmin 2820 and the Victory mount part # 2875742 with the cable. If any body could give me some Installation directions it sure would be appreciated.
Thanks Ride Safe |

I just uploaded the GPS mount instructions to the above listed link. You can look over the 3 pages and decided for yourself. |

If you haven't already brought the 2820, might I suggest doing with a 550 Zumo instead.
I have on on my bike, and since it's made for a bike it has some better features. It's waterproof, the buttons are on the left side so you can use your clutch hand to adjust, has a removable media card so you can increase storage, and more. Or wait until the 660 Zumo comes out.
Here is a link to Garmin's site, and you can compare the different units. Shop on line because I picked up my 550 for $675 and that was with free overnight shipping.

As to mounting on the bike, a few different places are making mounts. I made my own. For hooking up to the Vision, just plug in the 3.5mm audio cable, wire up the power, and it will play mp3's and directions thru the aux setting on the radio.

| must agree with Member...the 550 is awsome. I hooked up the xm radio and its sweet. I run the xm, mp3, and traffic voice cammands thru the speakers using a female ipod cable with a 3.5 mm jack on the other side. This way when i want to change it up i can throw my ipod on for a change of pace. |

Posts: 1158 Richmond, Virginia | showdawg, im not a garage mechanic by any means, and my dealer challenged me to do my own install saying that it was so simple
so i took him up on it. and......... it is SIMPLE. took me about 35-45 minutes. I can talk you through it if you need help, I purchased the Garmin 2820 which is the exact same model that Victory sells, just without the logo and dealers pre-loaded (not sure why i would care where the dealers where 8 states away....). I looked at the Zumo, and my other half has on on their bike, but i dont like the way it looks on the center console of the Vision, its too tall and bulky looking for my taste, also makes it more difficult to see the ignition and console switches, the 2820 is removeable soooooooooo much easier when you need to take it off for security at a resturant/hotel etc... Let me know if you need some talk through, but trust me, if i can do it you can ! |

Posts: 235 Kincardine, Ontario, Canada | I mounted my Zumo on the Dash above the speedo. I bought a 1 inch ram ball base, marked 3 hole locations and drilled small pilot holes. I then used 1/2 inch #8 stainless steel button head screws to secure, but also used weather stripping adhesive under the base for extra security. I drilled a 3/8" hole on the center line close to the windshield, put in a rubber grommet and fed the wires behind the tach to the right side of the center console. There attached to the large wiring harness is a Tyco Mini Amp Multilock 7 pin female connector, 2 pins are used for the 12 VDC and the other 2 are used for the +/- for the speakers. I stopped there as I'm still waiting delivery for the male Tyco plug. This will give you switched DC and the direction commands overriding the Music on the front speakers.
No Pics, once I'm done I will. |

Posts: 128 Aubrey, TX | I agree it is easy. I bought a 2720 for 110 on ebay. Same as 2820 without XM and MP3..I use IPOD for MP3. If you get the new IPOD cable..Keep the AUX cable..pull the grommet off and do this http://thevog.net/forums/display_topic/id_253/ for a nice clean install. |

Now when my bluetooth phone rings I touch my GPS screen and talk away. I mounted with supplied RAM mounts but purchased an extension to connect between the 2 balls for better dashboard visability. |
