Posts: 639 Tri Cities, WA | I have been reading at other vic sites of folks who are tired of the slow pace and the site being down to often and have decided to bail and not come back. Thats really to bad because we have and had some good folks here. I hate to see them leave because who ever host this site cant make it faster or keep it from going down so often. I plan to stay but may not stop by or post as often as i have in the past. Great site but in todays tech this site really should move faster and not be down so much either. Just my two cents.
Hell i even own a shirt from this site thats how much i like it here. |

Posts: 460 Centennial, CO | Ironically, I just sent an email to the webmaster asking what the issues are.
I am hoping that it is a function of hardware causing the issues. This would be a fairly quick fix comparatively speaking.
Hope to hear something back soon.
I am not leaving as I have invested too much time and effort into this site. But will certainly become more active on others until this is resolved. |

Posts: 935 Rockford, IL | I'd like to know what other sites you are reading this information at I visit this site and thevmc quite a bit (daily) and thevog every few days and I haven't seen any posts from any folks who have said they are "bailing" or anything along these lines. Heck, I've only seen one post regarding the slowness of this site and that was when a member from here stirred the nest up a bit over at thevog. Am I missing something somewhere? I'll admit that sometimes this site is slower when compared to others, and it has been down once or twice. But in reality it really isn't that bad. Its nowhere near bad enough for me to complain about it. And I will never "bail" due to this issue. I'm tending to bet that the speed and dependability of this site has to do with the financials of this site. I pretty much doubt that Jeff or Miles are making much (if any) money on this site, and it wouldn't suprise me in the least if it was a overall drain on thier checkbooks. The site sponsor money and the product sales don't add up to much....trust me on this one But....what if there was a request from JAM or Miles for some type of volunteer financial donation so this site could be faster? Would you be willing to toss in a few dollars? Or better yet....what if they made a "Special Edition" and/or a "Limited Quanity" type item, like a very nice high quality shirt or jacket or whatever, and promissed to reinvest the profit from this item back into this site so that it could be quicker and more stable. Would you purchase it? Even if it was a bit more pricey than normal? And....would you be willing to spend this money up front...prior to the item being made? If so, what would you like to see made available? Shirt? Jacket? Blanket? Etc... I know I'm probaly speaking out of term by suggesting a site donation and the "special item" idea might be bit out of line. And I'd be a bit suprised if either of these is taken up. But hey...I've never been one to bite my tongue much |

Really, stable, free and works much better. Shall we set one up independently? |

| FYI
The hosting company we are using had a major failure that affected many sites. They are still in the process of resolving it.
That said, we are moving Vision Riders to another host soon as part of a large upgrade and a few surprises we have planned.
Jeff and I agreed at the start of this project that the service would remain FREE. However, there has always been a way to "donate to the cause," it's on the About Us page.
Thanks to everyone for your continued support and participation. The last update was that the issues would be resolved by this evening.
Thanks again.

| One thing I keep saying, "No matter how fast they make it (insert anything with computers) it's never fast enough.
I have read a few posts about the speed here or that's down. I learned this neat trick. While it's slow I open up another tab and visit another site. When I get back here it's usually fine. Yes, this site is slow at times but maybe the jump ship guys have too much trash (for lack of a better word) on their computers? :P I figure some of the posts are justifying to themselves why they aren't coming here anymore or whatever.
I only post at TheVMC to help others most of the time, well, a few sarcastic posts too. I like this place and the VOG. Heck I had Deputy Dawg (not Andy) over at the VOG whine cause I linked this site and TheVMC. It's all about making knowledge available to all that are interested. I don't think any of the site owners are worried all the members are going to jump ship because of links put on their sites.
Let's get out and ride. |

I bitch and complain when it is slow and frustrating, but it is still the best site for all that I have gained from it along with some new guys to banter with.
Let's give Miles and Jeff a little slack, they had a great idea with this site and still do, I'm sure they will find a fix. |

Posts: 367 Cottage Grove, Mn | Let me say I LOVE THIS WEB SITE BUT I JUST HATE SLOW. I'm 65 and its slower then me. I read the comments about the probable cost to host this web site and maybe they are not generating enough revenue from advertisers and maybe they should sell t-shirts, jacket, cap or other such items and I agree, as long as it's quality goods I would buy. I also read Vision-riders comments about supporting the site. OK Never let it be said that I'm some kind of cheap S.O.B. lowlife that isn't willing to pay his way. I just went to About Us and clicked on support Vision-Riders.com and you guessed it, it's down. I will however keeping watching and when it comes up I will be making a donation to the cause.

Fountain Inn, SC United States | Thanks to all for your patience over the last couple days. It's been frustrating for Miles & I for sure since it had nothing to do with us and was beyond our control. I actually think the speed issue has been plaguing host for awhile and maybe this major failure has a silver lining so they must fix things. Of course, as of this post, they are still working on repairs so there may be delays. That being said, we do listen to you and have also been working to streamline some of the code and you should begin to see things speed up (host problems not withstanding). Sure, there's a dozen sites that talk about Victorys but you can be sure we will always try to give you a friendly community to get & promote good info on your bike. Honestly, I get a kick out of meeting you guys at events and hearing how you've enjoyed the site.
Hope to meet you soon,

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | i will give my 2cents about this site. i have belonged to soooo many forums related to the bike i have owned at that time. and i even belong to 3 victory vision related forums. And this one is by way the best forum i ever belonged too. and thats even with the problems and down time. other forums related to this bike is not just about the vision but all victorys, so there is a ton of info on them forums i could care less about. and on the vision side of them forums the info is on the weak side. alot less posting under the vision section. Any info i have gotten for my vision came from here! Plus the people on here seem alot cooler. i belonged to other forums (NON-Victory)where the moderators were a$$holes! and they would play favorites. But i feel thats just the class of people (kinda related to what they rode too lol !!) anyways my point is , for the people that have left... you dont know what you got until its gone.. they will be back.

Posts: 58 Saratoga NY area | Not that everyone or anyone has a ton of money but hosting is cheap. I have Video websites and per website cost me about $300 per year / per site. The program to have forums like this starts at "Free and goes a little up to specially custom forum sites. The problem with this site is the "SERVER/HOSTING COMPANY" is the one with the issues. To switch over to a new server is fairly easy and members would not even know it. Back up your files and upload them on a new server. This website stuff is not like mounting a zumo 550 on the vision....Just Kiddin about the zumo. Bluehost, Cirtex, etc...check them out. |

I for one appreciate what Jeff and Miles do to keep folks like us in touch via this forum. So while I may not be a real frequent participant here, I do like to pop over and see what all the 08 owners are up to.

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | My few penny's worth. The internet is free range and though it is good for JAM and Miles to know that someone is frustrated, it is third-party heresay unless you made the complaint. People complain all the time even when things are going good, so I know they have taken it with a grain of salt any negativity that may come around. Any and all of us could make use of the free tools and sites on the internet and start our very own Vision, or other topic related site in just a few short minutes, but would you be willing to keep it up. I'm grateful for the effort that J & M has put into this site and I'm a T-shirt holder from an article posted. I shouldn't be so cheap and actually buy something to support them, since I'm not really a good source of entertainment. So when some leave a site, others join in, and so goes the cycle. As far as poor performance, I some how came across a site where the guy was bashing harleys, from straight out saying how bad they were to a joke section. The sad part about this site is that it was full of broken links and out of date stuff. So I emailed the guy and pointed out though his site bashed a bike, his site was no better because it was falling apart itself. He kindly emails me back with a boat load of insults on my maturity and intelligence and gave excuse of how he had so much more important things to do like spend time with his family. I responded one last time telling him that it was good he changed his priorities to taking care of his family and wished him well. His site is now devoted soley to skateboarding or something like that. I had to tell that story, one for the intent, and two, it takes lots and lots of time to keep up a site and the internet is scattered with dead sites everywhere. It is a plus when you find one that is actually being maintain in spite of circumstances beyond ones control that can pop up at anytime. |

Yeh, the site was down for a while but I knew Jeff & Miles weren't happy about that either and would get it up as soon as they could...they got other lifes too.
I like the specific questions about my bike that come up on this site and tend to read the ones that catch my eye. I really like the Victory-Riders website to that Jeff has at the top of this site...I wish more people went to that one too and gave input. Like Jeff said, that site is more about the people than the bike so I get more bike info here from the "crew".
However; I really like hearing about ride stories and where people went and what the did and the great roads they were on, etc. so the other site would be perfect for that if there were more than 58 Vision participants on that site vs. 1149 here...to give you some perspective on the interest of these two site.
Can't wait to meet you too Jeff....and Miles...thanks for the time and effort you put in this site. |

1. You will no longer have the prividege of hearing what fantastic gift I recieve every other week from Victory. Why just this week, I received a case of Victory tissues, WITH ALOE ! Granted I am somewhat put off that the fragrance is that of motor oil, but it was
packaged in a Victory Limited Edition tissue case.
2. You will no longer get to hear about the fantastic new piece of chrome i added to my bling bling Vision.
3. The loss of reading my weekly rants over some of the silly topics on here that are typed with the most sincere of concern....
(ie, "Who has a scratch on their headlight cover" LETS TAKE A SILLY POLL),, oh crap wait, that was my post nevermind.
4. You will forever lose the pleasure of reading some unknown bastard on here mistaking my obvious trained sense of humor for being
sincere and honest....
5. Did i mention all the gifts I get??? oh yeah, refer to item # 1.
6. Not that its all about me, but are you R E A L L Y ready to give up the joy of counting the typos, misspellings, inaccuracies of the
English Language to the degree that some posts have nothing to do with their very own subject matter???? Shall i refresh your memories on a few examples "My new Vigtory" ..translation I just picked up my new Victory Vision Streek = Street
Touerer= Tour'r= Tourer just to name a few of my personal favorites.
7. You will miss the monthly reminders from CERTAIN site members forcing me to revisit the humilating "diarrhea cruise" i endured in
January.
8. and lastly, YEAH, it IS all about ME ! If you leave here you wont get to hear anymore about ME ME ME ME friggen ME.
IF THATS NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU STAY, AND PUT AWAY YOUR PETTY GRIPES ABOUT SPEED, AND KEYSTROKES, WELL THEN.....
TAKE YOUR ASS TO THE HARLEY WEBSITE, CAUSE THATS PROBABLY BROKEN ALL THE TIME TOO... there, i said it, now i feel
all better. now get your asses back to the site. VaParadox said so.

All the other trucking posting boards have folks saying the same thing FOR 10 YEARS NOW.
I have found the Internet is filled with professional expert malcontents. They express much opinions about everything but know very little and predict nothing that comes true.

In the early days of this board I could click on this board and read all the new posts from the past week in just a few minutes.
The past several months the place has grown and gained a lot of posters.
NOW I have to spend sometimes better then an hour to read all the new posts (and I don't read them all ). Plus, I had to built my Favorites files much bigger to add all those links for the cool products and ideas folks post on this board.
Plus, the Motivational Posters thread has so many nice looking girls …. I mean bikes.. I mean cool posters on it.
I really like the blond bikes .. I mean cherry colored bikes.

Posts: 3006 San Antonio, TX | Jeff and Miles,
Like many out there in today's economy my job is high pressure and long hours. That's OK with me because I would not trade my job for any other, I love it. What keeps me going is family, music, radios, and riding.
Vision-Riders.com is great because the group here does things and works, for the most part, with a positive outlook to solve issues that they or others are having. Most posts are a team effort.
I like being part of that team. I have read almost every post that is on the site and can usually recall enough information about a topic to find related posts pretty quickly and help out.
I am not going to hide the fact that I was not happy to find the site down for an extended period. One starts to wonder, what posts are going to get lost this time. When will it be back? Will it ever be back?
Reading and posting is how I take a break from work. So I went to thevmc.com and read and posted. Going to thevmc.com is rare for me, once every few weeks or so. I try to check this site three or four times a day.
Hosting can be a pain. We host a lot of systems in-house. I provide everything but the content. We run a small shop and all of us have to wear many hats.
I do try to support the site and own some shirts. I never said that I was leaving the site. That would be stupid because there are some great people here. But like you guys I do get frustrated.
Take Care |

Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | I ain't going anywhere else. Back in February I wrote a thread on VOG site - just asking Vision owners/prospects if they knew about this site. Here is the first response I got: " I've been surfing these sites since I got my Vision in Nov and have never registered or posted on any of them. When I saw this post I decided to sign up so that I could add a comment. I've been to the other site many times and it's too slow for me. Sometimes it takes almost a minute to go to a page when I click on it. This site is much faster and has a lot more photos and videos. It was the videos on this site that got me looking at Victorys. I don't think its right for you to come on one site to try to drum up business for another. Maybe theres a reason more people come here than there. Did you ever think about that? Its not right that you are raiding this site and they should kick you off. " So this guy joins VOG just to bitch at me for talking about another site. Well, ya know - I haven't spent much time on that site since. About the only thing most of us agree on - is that the Vision is our kind of machine. Everything else is - well ... INTERESTING. So - I put up with the 'slowness' and occasional down time - because - thanks to Miles and Jeff ,and all you others who contribute your thoughts, ideas and desires - this is where I come to learn and occasionally be amused. And it can only get better!!! |

I have re-read this thread and others. If Jeff and Miles need money to fix the problems, all they have to do have a fund drive and ask for it. I need things laid out for me like...."We need X number of dollars to fix the site (or move the hosting) and keep it running smoothly for the next 12 months."
I would gladly help out with a request like that.
Fund Drives for sites I understand and would help. To me a fund drive is like a girl on an "out of gas scooter" on the side of the road.
What I am hearing is they have a hosting problem. Unless the host company gets it together or they move hosting, nothing will change. I am sure that the hosting issues are more of a pain to them then they are to us. We only post messages, they manage everything else.
I have bought two shirts and some stickers. Maybe I should donate as well. I am confused, conflicted and tired. Worked 16 hours again yesterday. I need R&R. Rest and Riding.

| Folks, it's like this.
We're never going to ask for money. Contributions come in all forms from people buying items in the store to out-n-out donations to writing an article to posting a few kind words. It's ALL appreciated. Contributions go into everything from taking care of the site with hosting and development, to new branded products (yes the patches are coming soon) and cool swag like the flexlites to new articles. As we grow, there will be growing pains as there is with any site, and Jeff and I will deal with it as it comes. I think we've proven that.
Don't know about for anyone else, but it seems since the outage the other day there has been a marked improvement overall. I'm about as far away(west) from the actual server location(east coast) as one can get without getting wet, so I would assume it's better for everyone in between.
Just be thankful you're not in California this week. No internet, No phone, No 911, no nothing. Puts our little forum outage into perspective.
Again, thanks for all the kind words, and even some of the not-so-kind-ones. Either way we listen, hope to continue to provide a service you enjoy using.

I have been on other forums where it seems wives tales are more in tune with what info is accepted, and when a wrong answer is pointed out as WRONG, with facts, the one pointing it out is chastised. Thank God it is not like that here. I like you guys.------Metalguy |

Posts: 1324 So Cal | I can remember only 2 times this site has been down. Loading pages has always been a problem. Mainly when traffic increased. But, this is the first forum I found where there is little attitude. Sure, there are rants and joking, but once its done, its over and things get back to the topic at hand. I've looked at the others that are linked to this site but they seem to have something missing. Whether we agree or disagree, everyone on this site provides helpful, useful information. |

Posts: 11 Portland, OR | Guys,
I have to come out of the shasow & stop lurking to add my 2 cents. I am currently in Kabul, Afghanistan. I have been reading the posts on this site ever since I bought my Vision in November of '07 while home on vacation.
Our internet is via satellite, so it is always slow by nature (my company is too cheap to increase the bandwith). Even so, this web site consistantly load a page in about 10-20 seconds, though it did have 2 periods where it wouldn't load in the last couple of weeks. Now since I am definitely as far away from the servers as you can get & still be on the planet, it seems to me that the website host may not be the problem, though as I am not a communications engineer (nor do I play one on TV), I will not speculate further as to the problem.
What I will say is that I too have lurked around the other web site, & I find that this one has by far the friendliest members, the best info, & the best attitude of them all. A little ibt of slow interent is not going to drive me away, not from a site that has so much to offer. I will be faithfully lurking around this site as long as it is available.
This web site has been great for me, learning alot about my bike, getting to know all of you characters; in short, helping me to keep my sanity while over here. I want to say Thank You to Jam & Miles for all of their hard work & dedication to creating & maintaining this site, & another Thanks to all of you members that have posted so much information, creative upgrades, & have made this site alot of fun to come & visit. I am starting my 4th year of working security over here, & this site & all of you are really appreciated.

Posts: 63 Corpus Christi Tx. | I may not post much on this forum but I do visit everyday whether it's slow or not. I have to admit that of all forums I visit I prefer this one because of all the helpful info that is posted by Vision riders and is strictly Vision oriented. I own a Vision Street premium and an 05 Hammer and I am Victory all the way. I have ordered t-shirts, stickers and a Vision bag from here and I for one am not leaving this site. Thanks to all who really make this forum happen and I will support you all the way. The motivational posters by SongFan are fantastic and a big tribute to the members of this forum.
Thanks again and to all...please ride safe.

Posts: 257 Under the Rule of Jedi - Masshole | Man I wish all the wine bags were around when there was only one Victory Club online. It was on Yahoo. Read a post, next page was an add, read a post, next page was an add, you get the picture. This was back in '98! Oh yea, that was the same year I ordered my first Victory! And back then I'm sure a lot of you either never heard of Victory, or had poopy diapers.
Still got #567 V92C that rolled off the line.
So all I got to say is THANKS Jeff & Miles! |
