I've had a bad back for over 20 years now. I know that anything over 25lbs is forbidden. I can't even ride without a backrest. So yesterday I was retrieving my Vision from the trailer where I house it at our community RV Lot. There is a steep downhill and after I backed the bike out and leveled it off to warm it up, I decided to back it up to the trailer so I could sit while I put on my new JETSN license plate. The only problem is the bike was sideways to the downhill and as I was backing it, she tipped over onto the skids. I calmly turned it off and decided to put my back on the seat, grab the handrail and the handlebar. The only problem was the bike was leaning into the downhill grade which made 900 lbs feel like 1500 lbs. The bike came up and I got her on the stand but my back snapped for the thousandth time in 20 years. I went on the ride anyway but by the time I got home I was in agony. I will be down about a week I guess but here's my question...

How do you keep a black bike clean?

PS: Forget all the back stuff, I just needed to vent but didn't want to just post an eight word question

Good luck keeping the dirt off, it doesn't happen with black, lol.
On the back note I'm a 70% disabled vet for back injury about 25-30 years now. If the vision felt heavy when you lifted, you did something wrong. I tipped mine over soon after buying it and had to lift it "uphill" as well and it was very light. bike in gear, bars turned fully towards you, one hand on bar other on grab rail upper butt on seat edge, leg lift?? Asprin to keep the inflamation and spasms at bay. Hope your feeling well soon.

So it isnt really a back story, just a poor parking job story????? Hey, we all make mistakes, hopefully just once. Sorry to hear your back is down. Ive lived with lower back issues ever since highschool. Its like walking on pins and needles every day. One wrong move and im down for a week, and in pain for 2 months. So i totally understand where you're coming from. If it were not for my inversion machine I wouldnt be able to have a normal life like everyone else. The Vision doesnt hinder my back at all. Ive said it before on here, its the saggy butts and big guts that cause men to have back problems. Dont give up the bike, get off the couch instead. (not referring to you, i dont know your medical history), but lets face it the majority of touring bike owners are not in good shape......

I know your pain. last October I had back surgery scheduled, fusing L4,L5 and S1. The only thing that stopped me is the thought I might not be able to ride with the two rods in my back. I can ride the Vision for hours with no pain but let me stand for five minutes and I am in agony, so I spend most of my time in the saddle. And talk about luck, I've had it all wrong with my Vision, gas tank and radio replaced, sixth gear scream. chrome pitting and peeling but its the best riding and handling bike I've owned and I've been thru them all.....

Necktie,

One time while picking up my Vision I had the pop and was in pain for a few days. I started thinking about the lift I made and found something I could improve on.

This past week end I really needed to clean and polish the Vision so I placed it on the tipovers and did one side. When getting ready to lift it I noticed that I was pulling to much with my arms and upper body.

I relaxed my upper body and just used my legs to walk the Vision up by pressing my butt into the seat. My hands, arms and shoulders were just used to make sure that I did not let my butt slip off of the the side of the seat.

The I laid it on the other side and completed the job with another lift. This did not bother my back at all this time.

I guess I just needed to figure out how to lift better. I never was a weight lifter.

Take care and heal well.

Hey Y'all
My back is healed and back into its normal crappy condition. I really think my problem with the proper lift technique is that at age 64, I do not have any muscel left in my decomposing chubby body. I'm just thrilled I can still get her off the kickstand and ride.

Swifter for the very light dust. Change often and keep it in the trunk.

LMAO! Not about the back but about the 8 word question preambled by your back issue. Sorry to hear about the back. I have been lucky never to have these issues so I can only empathize.

As for keeping clean...take a look at the "Liquid Glass" thread. Good information there!

I know about back pain as well...... I blew out L5, S1 about 15 years ago........
Anyway I too have tested the tip stops....... I moved the bike forward about a foot by standing off to one side rather than astraddle, .... Well I didn't have the bike fully upright and the kickstand lifted unbeknown to me..... SOoooo when I set the bike back down to where I thought the kickstand would be....... Well CRAP, it wasn't there..... however the instep of my foot made for a remarkably soft landing pad for the rear tip-stop.......... after I lifted the bike off my instep it rested nicly on the tip-stops, meanwhile I do a little dance and a lot of swearing..... So now I pick up the bike again to get it on it's kick stand... ahhhhh success. ..... i dance around a bit more and sear a bit more before I manage to get my boot off to assess the damage to my throbbing instep...... amazingly it appeared nothing was broken ( I did have a feeling it was going to leave a hell of a bruise though) so I got the boot back on went home and decided to take the rest of the day off....... As I come into the hous the little woman asks why is your right boot untied..... I reiterate the sordid details and in her sweet caring way.... laughs here ass off, after she is able to recover she says we really ought to go and have some xrays taken of my now very swollen and colorful foot..... I gett o swear some more and after careful examination I decide ..... BULLSHIT I am not going for xrays..... I go for coffee instead.... Any way the foot is OK nothing broken and the bruising is nearly gone now as well..
Moral of story...... Keep your feet clear of the tip-stops.

Glad to hear your okay. Next time ask for help! And the black part, just dont let anyone touch it. The dust will be evenly distributed until someone touches it. I used to bitch at my wife for disturbing the "layer" on the inside of our trucks windshield. Seriously, I see things on my black Vision that most dont notice because the bike looks so different. Things you see in a garage with artificial lighting, disappear in sunlight.
Only a biker would worry about keeping his bike clean whe he has a bad back to worry about!
