Out of lurking again... Just a quick post to see if anyone here knows the width specs of the belt. I read through my e-copy of the service manual and found no mention of the belts actual size. I'm having Super Max rework my pulley to eliminate the rear pulley squeel once and for all so they need this info for an accurate price quote. I'm stuck offshore or I'd grab my calipers and spec it myself.
Thanks all,
-Will

Big Will, I'm coming up with 1 1/8" (1.125) or roughly 28.6 mm. Hope this helps. Keep in mind I've got 38K and I don't know what effect that has on a belt. My first belt bike and I never knew what I was missing.

I have my new belt in hand. I am approaching 30K any day now and my belt is starting to chip.
nothing serious but it will be replaced at next rear tire replacement.
belt specs are 28 mm 154tooth.

I need to take a much closer look at my belt, and soon. I've got 38K on it and it looks like new almost. I've not seen any unusual spots or wear. However, I need to do the rear sprocket at the same time as the coating is peeling off.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate this. 28mm/1.125" is good news. He needed to be sure it wasn't >1.5". I'll be sending in my rear pulley next month to have him rework it. Something Bill mentioned about our rear sprockets is that they come from Polaris with a light coat of teflon on the teeth that wears our relatively quick. Everything he told me about premature sprocket wear seems to be consistent with what I've dealt with on my bike since before I hit the 5K mi. point and above. I never really rode my bike hard so I'm still convinced that Victory should replace this rear pulley that they keep aligning/tensioning. I'm at the point now where I'm glad I bought the extended warranty but am sick of having them half-a$$ fix this sprocket. I'll shell out the cash myself and have it done right so I can enjoy this machine.
Thanks again,
-Will
PS, I'll post the results when I get everything back.

What kind of rework is he doing to the sprocket?

Will I agree with you 100%. First off the pulley/belt squeal is a joke and should have been addressed by Victory early on when the complaints started. A tour bike that can only go 1000-2k miles before needing the belt adjusted is simply bull. Secondly the replacement interval is far too frequent. If HD can install a belt good for 100k plus there is no reason the Vision shouldn't have one.
Sorry guys I hate to gripe but for a tour bike to have the maintenance intervals the Vision does needs some serious looking at by the company. I never worried about maintenance on my HD and I sure love my Vision but I dread even thinking about the frequency of maintenance.
Will did you get a price quote from SuperMax you can share so we have a rough idea??

I think there does need to be relook as Victory loosened the belt considerably which should eliminate squeal and extend life of the belt. Since going to the new spec no growl or squeal and the belt looks good after 38k.

They did a frequency tune on my belt at about 2100 miles due it sounding like a sherman tank starting out on cool mornings. I think it looks to tight, there has to be less than a 1/16" of play in the belt. There was previous post on the here. http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1065&pos... and on the VMC http://www.vision-riders.com/bb/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1065&pos... Now at 7900 miles I just started to notice a very slight noise as I start to move and it immediately disappears before I shift to 2nd. Gotta find out if they fix it anyway today.

bigwill, I'm really interested in what work they would perform on the pulley. I did not have a chirp for the first 7500 miles, but now the only way it goes away is if the belt is tighter than the book specification. I have tried what is said to be a new spec and it chirps all the time with that setting. I believe the only thing the dealer would do to fix, because I've tried that, is they just tighten the belt very tight, hey it goes away.......but it is not right. My dealer will be replacing the belt at 30,000 miles as I have a service contract to do that. Hopefully by then something will be resolved with the pulley.

Well, the first one came out about the time I bought my Vision in Nov. 07, making the belt slightly looser. Then about 6 months later I was told by my dealer that they have come out with another change making it a tad looser yet. I don't know the exact specs on that one, I've got the previous one in my book. I'll have to check with my dealer on Tuesday to get the details. It seems loose, but not too loose, and I've not had one squeal or growl since the new spec. By the way, I loosened it myself before I even knew of the latest change. When I got it back from the tire change I check the belt expecting it to be tight, and it was right where I had it. I asked about it and they told then that was the new spec.

Have just over 11k on my bike. The bird chirping has been a regular thing off and on. This is the first time I have addressed it and not let them take care of it at the dealer. Belt was riding on the right side of the pulley. Loosen axle nut slightly and tensioned the right side adjustment by 1/2 of a turn and then a 1/4 more more after rolling back and forth accros the shop floor. Tightened axle nut and then went for a ride. What a difference and took all of 10 minutes or less to do. I think a bout a 1/4 turn more and it will be perfect. Belt tension is fine and alignment in the pulley is still on the right side of the pulley but not touching the side.
This is really easy to do so try it if you are having a noisy ride.

You cant go by the notches on the adjuster plates. When I first did mine Victory's way I thought it couldnt possibly track straight. But it works. What the manual dosent tell you is that you have to push the belt to the inside while turning the rear wheel forward. When you rotate the wheel backwards, there will be a point in the adjustment when the belt will stay to the inside when rotated forward. A quarter turn on the left adjuster at that point sets it perfect. It was frustrating a first, now, things are quiet. The notches on the adjuster plates? I have no idea why they are there?
