Maybe I am mistaken but the Ipod only let's me play there controlled music, right?
If so what are others using? I filled the space in GPS but I ride long enough for it to loop back. Then I have to drag it in the house and reload.
I know other MP3 players won't work off the controls like the Ipod but I like having my options open for other file types. I figure as long as I only load the music I like I won't have to worry what it's playing.
Also using another player will it cause it to play on and on till I open the glovebox and turn it off? Not a problem cause when I get tired of the GPS I just turn the radio switch off.
I figured others have tried other players and I want to pick their brains.

Load about 16gigs of MP3s burned at 96 rate and I should be in good shape. The lower quality should be fine with all the road noise.

Thanks in advance.
i tried to do a search but kept getting a script error window.

You can load all of your MP3's and CD's into iTunes and put them on an iPod nano. You do not have to buy anything from the iTunes store.

I have been buying iPods off of eBay for less than $100 for 8GB units. I don't like iTunes so I use WinAmp to store, file and rip songs to MP3 and create list for the iPod from there. Found out about a program called RadioTracker from another site. It 'listens' to about 3000 internet radio stations and then rips MP3s that you can then load to your iPod. The program is about $30 and it just watches for any songs to be played that you put on your wish list - it's great!

I was using a Zen at first also. Worked great. I changed carriers and decided to get and iPhone and I'm much happier. I don't think you will be happy using a lower bit rate. I have a handful of lower quality songs and I can hear the difference. One perk with the iPhone is that I listen to AM radio with is using the iHeart radio app. As great as my Vision is, the AM radio is almost worthless.

BlueOx USA,

I get my nano's at Pawn Shops. The last 8GB Gen 3 I picked up was $70 plus tax.

Have you looked at the Vision iPod Guide? I would check it out before buying a brand new one.

VisionBoy,

I love Winamp! I have been using it since 1999. Did you have to do anything to Winamp to Sync a nano?

It's pretty straight forward - not quite as 'easy' as iTunes.... When you plug the iPod in it will show up in the Portable section. I just drag and drop the playlist(s) I want on it. It's a 'manual' process (at least I haven't look for an automatic sync setting) but I like it that way. I gave up on iTunes 'cuz everytime I loaded songs that I ripped by other means iTunes would have to scan the complete directory and then mess up the entire list. WinAmp just seems the be better at adding only the new songs I place in the folders......

Thanks for all the info. I got a free 8gig IPOD. I helped my friend out with some stuff so he bought his girlfriend a new 16gig and I got her old one. It's red. But does have Happy V-Day and her name on the back. ) Heck never see it in the glove box. Works great.
Another reason I tend to burn at a lower rate is I ran air drills for 20 years so my hearing isn't so great.

I use a Zumo 550, I have the xm radio running thru it, but also keep 155 songs on a SD card inside the zumo for a change or when xm signal is week. All my music, xm radio, and GPS voice commands comes thru the speakers in crystal clear stereo usuing a female ipod (kooked to the bikes ipod jack) jack to a 3.5mm phone jack (hooked to the Zumo's headphone jack). has been a great setup.

My Victory GPS only has 2 gig and that's where they keep the favorites and routes so not much room for tunes. No card either. I think it's broken? It's not supposed to say, "Turn left STUPID!" is it?
Thanks for all the advice and see everyone on the road.

I have a Garmin 2730 that I use. To make more room for MP3's I deleted all the different books, voice and language files I don't use that are resident in the Garmin sucking up memory space. This allows me to have about 100 songs on it that I feed through the 3.5 mm headphone jack into the AUX input which provides stereo instead of the mono signal through the normal Garmin connector. The 2730 also allows XM but I don't use that feature.

Finally almost filled my Ipod and I have 40+ hours of tunes now.
If you go to Amazon.com you can get free MP3s. Life is good.

I have a first generation ITouch with a couple of hundered songs on it I downoaded from my computer.
Sounds much better than either regular radio or satellite and I can check my email when I stop anywhere near a wireless connection.
It also charges while driving.
