Posts: 35 , IL United States | Looking at Polk Audio DB522 5 1/4" marine grade speakers ($80)or Alpine sps-510 speakers. ($90)
Pros or Cons anyone?
Fronts already have hawg wired speakers which are good enough.

Posts: 12 Birmingham, AL United States |
I replaced my rear pair of Polk DB522 that one of the twitters went out with a pair of the Alpine SPS-510 speakers.. I have an amp and the Alpines bottom out bad, I've turned down the rear gain on the amp but still not the quality of sound that the Polk speaker had.. Still have Polk in the front and they sound better to me...I found the Alpines on Amazon for $50... so I choice them over the Polk, now will have to go order Polks...

Posts: 44 Lackawaxen PA United States | (2) Polk Audio DB522 5.25" 600w Car Audio ATV/Motorcycle/Boat Speakers + Rockmat all that for 80 bucks (Amazon) can't go wrong, the deadening pads make a huge difference & don't forget the speakers are waterproof ... have been involved in car audio for 25+ yrs ... believe me there's a considerable difference ... no meters, specs, etc ... just good old fashioned listening |

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | Doesn't really matter what speakers you put in the rear ... 5.25 just suck ... and with out a Amp they suck even more.. I have kicker in the rear and 6.5 kickers in the front .. sounds a lot better ...but I also have a alpine amp .... with out the amp there is hardly any noticeable difference while riding ... |

First impression was underwhelming..front hawgs are louder. These are more for the mrs. anyway. I do have an amp installed. |

Posts: 763 Anderson, IN (48mi NE of downtown Indianapolis) | I had 4 Hawg-Wired 5 1/4" speakers CX504-70. The front sounded louder because they are angled toward my face. I thought something was wrong with the rear speakers when I first installed them because of the volume difference. I have since swapped the front and rear to confirm my theory. The angle of the fronts are perfect. The rears have horrible positioning making them sound lower in volume.
I changed the rear speakers a while ago from Hawg-Wired to Polk Audio DB521 5 1/4". The Hawg-Wired tweeters fell off after approximately 70k miles. The plastic bridge cracked causing the tweeters to flop around behind the grill.
There is not a huge difference in sound quality between the Polks and HW. I think the HW are a bit crisper and cleaner, but completely lack any low freq sound. The Polks deliver less symbols, but more drums. That's in the garage. Outside at any speed the sound difference narrows greatly. The front HW are 9 yrs old now, so I'm going to replace them. Since I found the Polks on ebay for $70 brand new I went with them. Also, I chose the DB521 over the DB522 because the sensitivity is 93db vs 91. The 521 handles less power than the 522, but my amp is only 75wx4. So, the 521 will be fine. Going to put them in this Saturday. |
