Original shock and has been leaking oil coming through the Schrader valve for a while. Recently it dumped probably the rest of it on the bike lift platform. The shock still holds air and still seems to ride alright. I haven't heard of a rebuild kit or what the oil is doing or is it just an oily water residue that shouldn't be there.

Unfortunately, even the bilstein shocks I put on my truck, bilstein says just because fluid is leaking out of them they are not covered under their lifetime warranty.

I got 90K out of mine before it gave up the ghost. I went with the Penske shock because Ma Vic had the stock on back order. I have been happy with it so far. The only thing you do have to provide a payload weight when you buy it. I ordered mine to account for a passenger that will ride with me occasionally and it makes the bike about 1" taller for my short legs. I have learned to deal with it though. You do lose that air shock but the ride is the same.

Anytime I've need new shocks in the past I've usually replaced them with Progressive. Mine seems to have an air leak...BUT....seems Progressive doesn't make a replacement for the Vision.

I've seen where Penske possibly makes a aftermarket one. One of the members here likes the CC Tour shock, says it has a softer spring and rides real nice.

The Penske shock is an excellent replacement. You have to tell them how much weight you want to allow for. They make it according to what you tell them.

I agree, it would be cheaper. But what if the used shock I buy for say $300 starts to leak in a few thousand miles? Then I get to do it all over again. Sometimes cheaper turns out to be more expensive.

Reading about the Penske shock you have. Looks like an air valve on the top right side (looking in WitchDoc's site). Is that NOT an air valve?

That is not an air valve. I had the dealer install mine so I am guessing that is where they add the shock oil.

I'm going to carry an extensive tool kit to rallys and get spare parts from others bikes.

Got a used shock off eBay and it was way better than the original. That's been a few years ago, still holding the same air

Is this normal oil seepage from the shock? I am coming up on one year at the end of the month for warranty issues. The bike only has about 7500 miles. Would this be considered an oil leak/bad shock it still holds pressure.

Buy once...cry once...about the price of the shock, but never about the quality. Of course if you think your 70's era Honda 305 rides and handles great and only ride in straight lines, you probably can't be helped. If you can appreciate a shock being sprung for your weight and getting rid of the pogo effect as well as being adjustable for preload and rebound damping, then I'd spend the money and get the Penske shock. You can get race shocks that are triple adjustable in the back, but that is overkill on a big touring bike. I have a Penske shock in the back as well as an AK-20 cartridge in my front fork and I think it was well worth the price of admission.
