| Anyone know of any company renting the Vision?
I'm planning a cross country trip for summer 09 (DC to LA), and have been talking to EagleRider about renting. They rent mostly Harleys & Goldwings, but are also renting some BMW's. They won't commit to renting the Vision, but gave me a "maybe".
I intend to buy a Vision one day (can't at the moment with 2 kids in college), and would love to rent one for the long cross country. I may have to settle for the Electra-Glide, unless anyone has any ideas.

Posts: 935 Rockford, IL | Maybe check with some regional Victory dealers? And thru the years I've heard some decent things about http://www.rental-motorcycle.com/namerica/usa/usa_rental.html and here is a site I came across http://www.hctravel.com/html/locations_models.html while searching for the other site.
Have a question....you riding this DC-LA journey round-trip? Or one-way?

| Thanks everyone for the advise. I checked out the two links, and no joy there, but I'll send them an email anyway.
Our plan is to leave the DC area and ride one way on a northern route, through South Dakota (Badlands, Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore), on over to Yellowstone, and then Crater Lake in Oregon, before turning south on 101 down the California coast. We have 16 days, then one day to fly home, and the sites above are the must see ones for me. I'm researching what to hit between here and South Dakota, and how to route the trip, but nothing for sure yet.
I've emailed Victory to see if they have any plans to follow what HD does, but no response yet. I plan on renting one way, and will rent an Electra Glide if I can't get the vision, I already know I can do that on a one way rental. It looks like we have 4 bikes going, which is about max size I think. Anything bigger and we need to start making hotel reservations and stuff. I'm thinking we're just going to wing it all the way, except around Yellowstone and Mt. Rushmore.

hmmm....here is a question (or possible problem)....
Can you do a one way rental and leave the bike in California? A little background on why I ask this. Few years ago I had a friend who was going to fly to Las Vegas, stay for a few days, then rent a vehicle and drive to Santa Barbara area, stay for a few days, then fly to Hawaii, then fly back home to IL. Went to rent a vehicle in Las Vegas one-way....problem. Apparently California has some law where if the vehicle is a rental and its not "California emission certified" it can't be left in California???? I don't remember the details of the problem but basically he simply COULD NOT leave an out-of-state rental vehicle in California. He ended up taking a flight and then renting once he got to Santa Barbara.
I have no idea if bikes are treated the same or not. But it is something you should be aware of and check into.
Hopefully someone else here will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

| Well, I've been talking to Eagle Rider, and they have told me no problem with a one way rental, and they've even quoted me a price (around $2k for the 16 days). Apparently they do this all the time.
In fact, they say it's "possible" that some of the dealers will be getting Visions, but they won't know until mid-January when all of the orders have been confirmed.
I did see that Vegas now offers the Vision, but its only available for pickup & return in Vegas. I'm going to wait until mid January to finally book something anyway, so I can wait to see if the DC location (actually in Chantilly, VA) will get the Vision or not.

Sounds like you'll be cutting right through my neck of the woods. When you cut through Rapid City, SD be sure to look me up. I'll be on #02 anniversary Vision so I shouldn't be too hard to spot. There are some nice rides up in the Black Hills and I would be happy to be a tour guide while your here. Invitation also extends to anyone that makes it out this way. Good luck with the Vision rental.
