I'd ride to Sturgis to, well just to ride to Sturgis. I might hang around and watch the drunk harley riders burn up their rear tires, but that would be about it and of course, get a tee-shirt. I don't think it would be in the plan this year, but that might be a pass through when I take a lap around the good ole USofA in a few years, at least before I hit the big Six Oh! I'm sorry to take the snide remarks as a compliment, but I would think they didn't care at all if they said nothing at all. I thought it was a hoot when I got the one finger salute from a batwing rider north of Dallas last Sunday. This guy wanted to make sure I saw it by "shoving" it way up high. I'm thinking, "Yeah, they running scared!" Whooohoooo! Go Vision Go! Oh, I gave him the Winger wave back, you know the one you give grandma when you leave the house.

Posts: 203 Rapid City, SD | I live 40 minutes from Sturgis so I will be there. There are some great riding opportunities during that time and if you want more info let me know. It is usually a busy week for me but I'll help where I can.
One of the seriously cool things is to take the Dakota Thunder Run. It starts off on the Ellsworth Air Force Base flightline and goes from there to Sturgis. Very nice ride plus you can get your photo with your bike in front of a B-1 Bomber. Very cool.
Second highlight would be the Victory luncheon held each year at Spearfish Canyon Lodge. Our local club organizes a ride each year that winds though some of the premier roads in the area and ends up at the lodge for lunch. Also very cool. |

Posts: 412 Fargo, ND | I made the mistake of making the trip 15 years ago . It has been an annual pilgrimage since then and will probably continue to be until I can't hold my bike up anymore. The only difference between then and now is 'my plan'. I used to go during actual bike week. Now...I go the week before bike week. That way I can get out and ride the Black Hills in peace (which, by the way, is on my short list of favorite places to ride and nothing short of a totally awesome riding experience), enjoy Sturgis and the vendors, find a reasonably priced place to stay and watch the crowd build before it gets so bad that it takes an hour of stop & go traffic to get from the freeway to Main Street . When it gets too crowded (usually Saturday of the week before) I bail. I'll be there and I'll be the guy with the 'Black Vision' and the big crowd of wannabees looking at my bike |

I'm with you. I used to like the runs, but the crowd is just too much for me. There is some great riding at all of the runs but not when there are so many people. Especially now when there are so many novice riders comming to these events. Hard to enjoy yourself when worrying about the nuts around you. |

| I will be there. Look for a place to stay in Hill City. Nice small town and only 60 miles from Sturgis. right near Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse and the Hills.
Like any place, most bikers will aks you if you like your Victory. Once in a while, I had one guy go on and on about his HD. When he slowed down I very seriously asked him if he had a flat tire on his trailer on the way out. He said, "No, no problems, it pulled nice." I said, I rode out in 2 days from CT." His friend started laughing his arse off and he walked away, end of conversation. That doesn't happen too often.
That Thunder Ride sounds good. Keep us posted.
Victory will post on their website about the luncheon. I am sure it will get posted here. Mostly about 4-6 weeks before. |

I was talking about Sturgis the other day and I don't see me making the 2009 trek, but perhaps the year after. I'm not into the crowd thing, and cjnoho, I do agree it is about the ride (ref: other post), but it is great to have something to do at the destination. Maybe we'll see you all in 2010. |
