I finally seen a Vision ad tonight on the History Channel. The tinted sheild looks really sharp on the bike. I was wondering if you can even see the road at night with the tinted sheild. I'd like some feedback on the tinted black or grey shields. I seen some folks mentioning Cee Bailey's shields. Looks like that's the way I'll be going. A quick search of the threads didn't yeild anything regarding usability during the dark (when the winds are most calm out here). Any feedback regarding the use of this tinting is greatly appreciated.

I have ridden behind tinted shields on my HD Ultra. While I prefer the look of the dark smoke (almost black), the light smoke is really preferable for both safety and rider comfort.

When transitioning dips and cresting hills at night a dark shield must be low enough to see over no matter what the aspect of the machine. This puts the rider (and passenger) into the elements much more, vision becomes even more critical when you are dealing with precipitation. The short shields do not force the rain to blow over you, so it all ends up in your face.

A lot of the folks on this board have complained about the distortion on the edges of the stock vision shield, imagine if you couldn't see through it at all due to a dark tint.

I am almost 6'5", on the ultra in order to give me the view I feel comfortable with, the dark smoke shield is 8" tall, while my light smoke is 11".

Hope this helps.

One factor to consider is if you carry a rider. My windshield stays down all the time except in heavy rain, but when my wife unit rides the shield is up. I put the tall shield on and it is an annoyance with the edge as it puts me right there on the hilly roads and always looking like something is coming in on my because of the edge. Shields up, all is fine or all the way down, looking over the shield, it is just that edge.

So with tinted shields, it would depend on how dark, and what I understand you said you saw and the way it sounds it seems it would be okay. I just want something directly over my eyes and I finally found a cheap pair of foster grants shades that I wear night and day and they seem to work for me. If the wife was riding with me and required me to have the shield up, I'd have to go with clear glasses at night, but that would only be a minor inconvenient.

I'm sure the tinted shield does not have every rider in mind. I'm sure it is intended for those who ride only on bright sun shiney warm days and has the bike back in the garage before the sun sets.

My 4" taller than stock Cee Bailey's shield has a light grey tint & actually helps me see better at night by cutting the headlight glare of on-coming vehicles to a minimum.

Thanks Luke, that's what I was wondering. Sounds like the grey is go and dark is no go. Is that windshield in your gallery the wider version as well? I'm looking at keeping the stock height. At 5'11'' the stock height seems perfect for me. (I think I'll do the measurements at the chin as suggested by Cee Bailey).
