I had my bike in for service and when I got it back, it was running fine UNTIL I shifted. Back to popping and sputtering...etc. I was NOT happy!

I called the dealer and they said they would check it out the next time I was in to ensure they hadn't lost the mapping. I haven't made it back in with the bike as it has been too nice to ride.

Anyway...so now for the question. The dealer mentioned that the mapping can be lost somewhat easily. Really? Why? I am a computer guy and flashing a ROM should be mostly permanent. What the...???

Am I going to have to ask for a print out each time I pick up the bike to ensure it has the same map version?

check your exhaust nuts at the engine...I'm just saying...

Let us know if they were tight or loose...

I will check them...but why in the heck would a 2500 mile service require the mech to loosen or even remove the exhaust? I did check them after I had the new pipes put on and they were plenty tight.

Anyway, now you have me curious if they might have to do something to the exhaust during service.

OH...and I don't thank all of you enough for being here to answer questions! I truly appreciate the feedback!

Hey ElroyJ, These S1L2 pipes can be irritating, can't they? I tightened up my nuts (that don't sound right), I did the re-flash, I have tried shifting differently and she keeps poppin. Poppin is unpredictable, right when I think it is under control it reminds me with a chorus of motorcycle farts that the battle wages on. I just ain't right.

I thought after the re-flash I had won the war. Then, right when I was diggin it I shifted from 5th to 6th and pop, "you ain't conquered me yet you dumb ass" the Vision Level 2 pipes seemed to blurting out. " F-You", I muttered. I will patiently carry on until the day comes when I can raise my Victory Flag high and with pride. For now, I hope she doesn't pop when I am crossing in front of a bunch of riders hanging out in front of a Harley dealership.

All I needed to worry about at this point is whether or not I have lost the friggin reflash. Should be the southern riders will have some input for us while we stew on it this winter.

Well, even though I was told I was wrong, I believe, having the stock pipes mine where loose for a very long time, like from jump street. Okay, here's what I had to deal with. Popping and stalling, especially after coming off the interstate to a stop sign, or cruising around town. It was in and out nat the dealer, for the problem and for services. Slight improvement after new plugs, but it never went a way. I finally got the reflash and thought my problem was solved, nope it still popped and stalled. I change the plugs, it ran better but still popped and stalled. I did more research and a symptom of an exhaust leak is, you guessed it, popping and stalling. I tightened them up and yes they were loose. Voila! Olay!, Wheeeeha! NO MORE POPPING, NO MORE STALLING, RUNS SMOOTH AS SILK. Okay, you can tell I was happy. I told my dealer what I did and told him that I believe that was my problem all along. Nope he says, you've had it in for at least 3 services and that is one of our checks, exhaust nuts, and it was possible that they had work loose since it was 8,000 miles since I last had it in. I said, Okay, but what about that annoying ticking noise that I had from DAY ONE that is no longer there? I personnally thought that was a Victory characteristic of the motor, but I when I tightened the nuts it went away. I thought to myself "Of course, because my old Honda Goldwing had the same type of tick and upon inspection I found the exhaust loose and it too had gone away when I tightened them". Anyway, that is my story and I'm sticking to it.
