Posts: 1324 So Cal | I know it's been a while, I've been busy. I feel it necessary to share. I am one of the early Vision owners and have been fighting charging issues since the bike was new. About 2 years ago I got a job close to home, 2 miles each way. Charging would start at 14v and be at 12v when I got to work, battery would need charged every week. Long rides, everything would be normal. Back to daily commute and battery would need charged once a week. 3 weeks ago things changed. Coming home from a long ride, charging dropped to 12v and stayed there. Bought a new battery, no change. Checked stator per service manual, checked good. Ordered voltage regulator, took a week. Installed regulator and my world got a whole lot better. Charging never drops below13.8v. It's like I bought a new bike. Could never run locally with center headlight on before, now I can't tell that it's on. When I ordered regulator I found that Victory had changed the part number. That usually means improvements were made. WERE THEY EVER. I don't know when Victory made the change. I do know that original regulator, wires came out of the left side of regulator. New regulator, wires come of of the rear. Before, my eyes were on the voltage gauge with concern, now my eyes are on the gauge, with a smile, because I know things are working they way they should. I'm not saying that it will cure your electrical issues, but it is something to consider. |

| pray you never need a stator. They have upgraded that and now you need a kit to put it on |

Posts: 2118 Pitt Meadows, BC Canada | Interesting post. Here's why - at least for me. TA-DA !!!
This week the SPCSHP turns 8 years old (since I took delivery). Last week I swung by the dealer to ask about changing out my original stock battery - I have NEVER had more than 3 years out of a bike battery in 50+ years and here I am at 8 years. Because of winter rain, I do use my BATTERY TENDER between rides, but that's the extent of what I have done - and only in the last 3 or 4 years.
And here is what the Service Rep told me: "If it's working OK don't worry about it. We get 'Trade Ins' on other Victory models that are 10 years old - on their ORIGINAL BATTERY ... "
Well, cripes. I am a 72 year old Pensioner - it doesn't take much to talk me out of spending a couple of hundred bucks. So - I will RIDE ON !!!
But one other thought - WHERE DO YOU RIDE? In the Pacific Northwest our riding weather is usually cool - above freezing, and rarely above 80f. Mostly, we can ride in Leathers and be comfortable. I think that helps a LOT of things on a bike - like TIRE WEAR, ENGINE WEAR, BRAKES, OIL, and ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. |

Posts: 1324 So Cal | Update. I haven't used a battery tender in 2 months. I ride to work every day rain or shine. About 4 miles each way. Statrs like it has a new battery every time. Gauge never drops below 13.6 volts even at idle. I'm able to ride with center light on all of the time. Was never able to do that on short rides before. |

Posts: 1324 So Cal | Oh. Part #4012717 is the one I installed. I've seen aftermarket ones that look like it but I prefer Victory parts when it comes to that kind of stuff. |

I remember in the past on my 2008 you didn't get full charge until a certain RPM? Now you get full charge idle. I'm referring to my 2011. |

Just went through needing to replace the regulator/rectifier, and thought I would post this as an FYI.
First, all of the on-line videos I found showing how to test a motorcycle rectifier show the expected results to be different from what I later found to be shown in the Vision service manual.
Second, I purchased what is advertised as a replacement for the 4012717 off of Amazon for $80. When I tested it prior to installation the results were as shown on the videos. The unit worked for less than 3 hrs of driving and then failed. Turns out it was manufactured in China. Fortunately Amazon allowed me to return it for a full refund.
Third, an OEM replacement through my local dealer was $240, but a new in the box unit on Ebay was available for much less. When tested prior to installation it gave the results that the manual shows rather than the video tutorials.
Lesson learned; go OEM and follow the manual testing procedure.
