Posts: 1158 Richmond, Virginia | I am sooooo bummed. I ordered the new tribal black/silver skins for my brand new Street Premium, we even financed it into my loan. My dealer called me yesterday that the company who was manufacturing them for Vic has gone out of business. This leaves me with $2000
added to my loan plus interest on an item that victory cannot get. In the small print at the end of the email that notified my dealership (very small print), it said "Victory is working on a solution to this problem". Word is, they had so many requests for them, that they were originally on lenghtly backorder. Ok, explain to me huge demand for something you make.... puts you out of business..... guess thats the result of poor planning or bad business management.
Will see, still hoping for the best, but realistically expecting less.
oh yeah, this goes for ALL THE SKINS for 2009 |

You might get better results by taking them off and sending them out to paint. For $2000 I would think that you could have a real good custom painter come up with something truely unique. |

I agree. You could also have more of a 1 off by going this route. |

Stickers aren't bad until you scrape them with you book or something (accidently of course).
Oh...and I agree...make the dealer pay you back with interest! That is not cool...but in fairness, they didn't know either. But it is NOT your dime that you should lose. Victory should have had a better handle on it. |

Your dealer should have no objection if he's a straight up guy, its math. |

Posts: 1158 Richmond, Virginia | Message from the original poster. MYSELF. I currently own a limited skin on my 07 Kingpin Tour. These skins are NOT "stickers".
Not sure where you guys are getting your information. If I can locate my video of the technique I will post it up here for everyone to
watch. Im in the business, I should know. So far, the decision between myself and the dealer is to sit idle for a reasonable time and allow Victory to come up with an alternative, otherwise they have no problem doing the money thing. Will keep ya posted. |

I guess I interpreted your message as a Ness type add-on but a different form of graphics. Clearly, since I am not in the business I would not have known that.
to be honest, I have been around motorcycles for 35 plus years and never have heard of the term "skin" unless it referred to a sticker in which you place on the bike to give it a different look from a "graphic" stand-point. But again, I am NOT in the business...so what do I know??! |

I love the performance of my Vision. I wish Victory would offer the same performance. Come on Victory! Stand by your product and find another painter. |

Posts: 1158 Richmond, Virginia | I too think the term "skins" is misleading, but its the term my dealer and apparantly Vic uses.
When you do one of their custom skins, what happens is that you are actually replacing the
entire outter panel on the bike. In the case of the Vision, the main frontside fairing panels are replaced as well as the outter panels on the side bags. This is probably the reason for the $$ cost.
In the past, when an owner purchased a set of "skins" you were given a 500.00 credit back from Victory when your original skins were returned. For 09 that discontinued that, so you end up with
a full set of replacement panels. The paint job is done on the panels at the paint shop, then the panels are sent to you for self tradeout or your dealer to install. Like my Kingpin, the graphics are painted on the panel, then the entire artwork is sealed. You can feel the difference if you compare lets say a pin striping on a vehicle, and a custom paint job on the bike panels.
Lets just hope that the terms dont get any more techincally inaccurate. I would hate to have to refer to the front fairing skins as fore skins.....
enjoy the day, ride with pride.

| The 1st 2 were taken at Arlen Ness Victory in Las Vegas, NV. I wonder how well the paint will adhere to the tins over time ???
The 3rd was taken at Cycle Dragon in Cerretos, CA.
