| I installed polk 6.5 in the front of my Vision, it is great for the highs but the bass is weak, is this normal for this speaker? With my amp I can almost hurt your ears with the sound but the bass is just weak. Thanks Dwight |

Posts: 324 New Orleans, La, | Booming bass is a function of the size of the woofer and the head unit. If you have a MP3 player adjust the bass on it and the factory head unit. It also helps to add baffles to enrich the sound quality throughout the range. Be advise you won't get 16in base out of 6.5 speakers no matter what you do. IJS. |

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | what amp are you using? size of a woofer is only part of it.. there is also the EQ'ing and then of course.. in order to get Bass... Bass that you can hear, bass requires Power..... I got tired of the whimpy speakers so i added my own bass... lol

| I have the Rockford fosgate amp., and the Polk 6.5 2 ways, which kinda answers my question in a way, I had just thought that some bass would be heard a bit better. Would 3 way speakers be any better?, or is this just the nature of what I have?. |

| With the fronts as mids, would it work to use the tears as just woofers? I am not expecting anything crazy here just would like a little more lows...I mean rears not tears....damn auto correct..lol |

Posts: 167 , OH | which fosgate amp do you have the pbr300 or the T400ad? does it have ap/hp/lp switches on it? if so make sure its on all pass so it's not blocking high or low signals.

| It is the 300 and i do have it set to the ap setting. I remember seeing some small capacitor looking items on the speakers and I think that is what is blocking the lows. |

Posts: 167 , OH | well it depends how you look at it. if you have a 2 or 3 way speaker in the back then it has a built in crossover of some sort so the highs go to the tweeter and the lows go to the woofer. Cheaper speakers or speakers with low power handling numbers or small voice coils will have a capacitor on it to protect the woofer. The woofer isn't supposed to move THAT much to tear the voice coil or paper. So removing the capacitor will get you lower bass out of the speaker however will NOT all it to handle more power or woofer movement.
If you put a straight woofer in the rears you want higher power handling and good frequency response. The sound will have more fill but not more bottom. 5 inch speakers can only produce so much sound. highway speeds. the lower isn't better. you feel base, so kinda worthless to get to low. you really just want louder / cleaner with depth.
What speakers do you have now?

| I have 6.5 polks in the front and 5.25 polks in the rear. I definitely have loud and clear with the setup i have so at hi way speeds I will be able to hear it.

Posts: 499 Chattanooga, TN | I wish someone would design a replacement for the plastic center piece (just in front of the seat) that would hold an 8" woofer. I think it would work. BTW got any pics of your speaker grills and tips? I just got the Polk 6.5's with crossovers and tweets to install sometime, replacing the Polk db525's in the future!

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | i blew out another stock speaker.. lol and i dont even listen to the music loud. luckily i have 2 extra stock speakers.. then i will put (2) Kickers in the rear like i put in the front.. the only reason i didnt get kickers in the back yet is, i didnt really notice a big enough difference to go and run out to get another set... yeah there is a difference but nothing that's night and day... |

love it. 8" man I wish I could. |

Posts: 167 , OH | before you buy the kickers. Just some info. Look at several different speakers. Look for the power handling. After unlimited research I found the power ratings of the fosgate T-152's in the rear and T162 (6.5) up front with built in tweeters to handle my power amps. So handling the stock would be awesome and clean.
just some info. |
