I am VERY HAPPY with the remap. The engine runs seemingly quieter and MUCH smoother including during shifting!
I am running the S1L2 pipes and could not be happier at this time. |

Posts: 495 Carrollton, TX | I got the remap done this afternoon. I was not having any of the popping or stalling issues and my Vision seemed to run great since new. Prior to the remap I would get more vibration that I could feel in the handlebars at 3,500 rpm and above in any gear. It was not a lot but noticeable. After the remap the engine runs a lot smoother from 3,500 rpm and above. The whole power band seems a smoother. Are the rest of you that have had this done experiencing the same benefit? The engine heat seems to be a little less but I need more time to verify. After 100 miles the gas mileage seems to be the same if not a little better. I will have a better idea after another few hundred miles. |

Posts: 293 Arkansas | Had mine re-flashed today and have about 75 miles on the new map. Have S1L1 and have had the stock d/load for 5 months (long story). Had occasional popping especially when cold with the stock d/load and 40 to 48 mpg depending on alt above sea level.
First impressions with new d/load: Seems to run a little free-er ( kinda breathes easier I guess). I do have some popping with on and off throttle changes- medium loud to soft sounding though. Happens maybe 15% of the time. If the system has adaptive abilities then this may self calibrate over time. Don't really notice much improvement in power- maybe so but very subtle, if present.
Gas mileage: who knows at this point- the instant and avg. mpg are in line with previous readings. Temp per oil stick thermo is still around 195 degF with ambient temps in the 70's and 80's.
So, I guess the jury is still out, but I'm thinking it's gonna be a bit better.

Posts: 102 Madison, AL | My wrench stated since I had previously gone with the S1L1 pipes that the reflash probably wouldn't make a difference. I haven't noticed much difference but it usually takes a swift and hard blow to the head for me to notice something. Also, I have an excellent mechanic that also owns and rides his own Vision. I previously had CB/IC, Sat radio, Fog Lights, etc. installed and the mechanic did a excellent job of hooking it all up. I do have Loyds VIP and VFC ordered and hope to notice a bit more torque starting out. |

| I have mine in the shop now for the reflash. My bike when new had zero popping upon putting the S1L2 pipes on I got the popping. Then I added the VFCIII played with a lot of settings adjustments and Lloyd suggested the popping is from exhaust or intake leaks. Upon inspection my wrench found three leaks one big one. Fixed them and rode a couple thousand miles with out a single pop. Heard a pop or two at Street Vibrations in Reno and upon inspection at home found two small ones where the S1L2 pipes connect. So if your getting some popping I would suggest you check for the black around the exhaust joints.

I now have minor pop sometimes shifting from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3. have almost none down shifting. It seems to have more power on the lowend and driving in 2nd and third I don't get the jerking action when I come off the throttle. I would have to say there is an improvement. |

Posts: 244 Fargo, ND | I had the remap done last weekend. Today I rode 240 miles with a passenger, and had it die as I decelerated to a stop 3 different times. Once I was still in 4th gear and at about 40mph. The other 2 times were in first as I pulled in the clutch at a stop. Overall, the performance and smoothness at idle improved noticeably since the remap and mileage was 41.2 mpg at around 60 mph average today for the 240 miles. Having the bike kill when I'm coming to a stop doesn't bother me half as bad as when it dies as I attempt to leave a stoplight. That was the situation the first time it died today. |

Posts: 495 Carrollton, TX | As I mentioned in a post above I got the remap done on Friday afternoon and mentioned it made the Vision a lot smoother buy lessening vibration from 3,500 rpm and above in all gears.
Today I got to test the remap a lot further. I rode the Vision in downtown Dallas stop and go traffic for about 45 minutes in 95 degree temperatures and the remap mad a big difference in lowering engine temperatures. I was very impressed. According to my wrench the remap increases the richness of the fuel mixture at lower rpm in the lower gears to lower the amount of heat being generated by the engine. This is why I noticed much less engine heat in stop and go traffic but only a little less at highway speeds. Gas mileage seemed to be about the same if not a little better but I will have to put more miles on to really validate this. I also agree with Dave’s comments that the jerkiness I got in letting up on the throttle at lower speeds in 1st and 2nd is now gone. Thanks Victory!! |

Mine stalls quite often at traffic stops. Having just come off Harleys for the past few years, blipping the throttle is a hard habit to break. Mine seems to stall for sure every time I blip it. Sometimes it will stall without blipping...

Posts: 72 Eden Prairie, MN | Blipping: the practice of snapping the throttle to keep the engine running when coming to a stop or while at a stop. Generally required on non-efi systems but mostly a habit that sounds kool as the engine makes a "rapping" sound.
A few people were experiencing stalls when doing this under a limited set of circumstances and rider style dependant.
It never happened to me but I know others that it happened frequently. |

Posts: 311 Atlanta Area | SUCCESS!! I can now blip at will!! Seriously though, I took the long way home from the dealer today (about 170 miles) where I knew I would have plenty of red lights. No more hesitation or stalling. Somehow the download also seemed to make the transition from first to second much more smooth. Also, on the throttle then off the throttle used to be very "herky-jerky" (I'm sure that's the technical name for it), now it is as smooth as butter.
Anyway, I'm now a happy camper. Your mileage may vary... |

Posts: 742 North Orange County CA | Had mine done today, there appear to be noticeable improvements.
1) There is a significant reduction in vibration during throttle roll-on.
2) Acceleration seems to have improved.
3) There is much less "jerkiness" in response to chopping the throttle in traffic.
4) Overall vibration at constant speeds over 3000 rpm also seems to have lessened.
Admittedly this evaluation is from a less than 5 mile ride to work but so far I like it!
My dealer, Southern California Victory in Brea, had me in and out in less than an hour, and I was 30 minutes late for my appointment. Good job guys! Thanks. |

She leaps with new power from a dead stop in 1st gear, shifts way smoother and into 2nd, smoother and into 3rd, smoother into 4th and offers more power all the way through 5th and 6th. S1L2 and I was hoping the popping would be eliminated but she farted with authority from 5th to 6th (something new, in the past she popped in the lower gears.) Still making gurgles and little pops but in different spots as before. Am going for a ride tonight and will know more then. |

Hey Tim,
What I am noticing with the responses is, if you had stalling issues with your bike (I did), the flash cures it. If your bike was running perfect before the flash, then you didn't notice any changes. Makes sense to me... |

No big deal to tell if you have the proper reflash. This is called a computer file that is stored in the ECM. The numbers and dates inform the tech what version is there. If you had your bike in for service since Sept 26, 2008, you may have had it done. The dealer should have made a note and informed you of it and there should be information for your records that the SAFETY recall was done. |

Posts: 404 San Antonio, TX United States | To do an OEM/stock reflash, you do not need to go through victory. So you can do that anytime you want. If a service report was generated from a bike and the file sent in during the week, then polaris can send the authorization key back anytime during the week. Then you can flash that bike anytime you feel like it. There is no "download' involved. The file is already in the Digital Wrench, you just need to have the authorization code to unlock it. Big HONKERS, I do not have any information on. If the Nig honkers use one of the Victory fuel map files like the Stage 1 level 1 or Stage 1 level 2, then you will need to have the safety recall done. I seem to keep beating my head against the wall or people just dont know how to read. This recall is a safety issue and nothing else. It is not designed to reduce decel popping or backfiring, its great that it does help some people, but if your bike stalls, and you wreck and end up in a hospital or worse and your bike has not be reflashed, then the blame lays with the rider since Victory has sent notice and informed people not to ride the bike until the safety recall is performed. |

Mike,
If your dealer installed your Honkers and did a flash (charged you money for it), then you need the safety recall. There are only 3 flashes available for the Vision:
1. The stock flash (available free anytime you want it)
2. The Stage 1 Level 1 flash
3. The Stage 1 Level 2 flash
Your dealer probably did the S1L2 flash which seems to be the popular choice with the Honkers.
Victory now has updated/fixed software for all 3 flashes. So no matter what flash you have, you are entitled to a free re-flash of the same type that is on your scooter now.
Hope that clears it up...

| The only change I noticed is the bike was producing a wee bit more heat after gtting it back today (I think). I say I think because our outside temps ahve been in the 30's to 50's the past few weeks and when I picked the bike up today it was in the upper-mid 60's so it might have just been that making it feel warmer.
My bike did NOT have any stalling, or popping issues prior to going in and is bone stock. |

Robert You can take my comment just as personal as you want, thats up to you. I just happen to vent my general frustraion as a whole just as many other members on this forum do. I try to do it in a more amical fashion and not at any one person in particular. I barely respond to most post's cause i do know and understand fully that people need information. If i have the information i try to share it in a clear and concise manner and welcome questions pertaining to it. This particular thread and a few others that concern the very same thing just seems to keep going and going with the same quesitons and the same answers cuase no one is searching the threads. I have taken time on different occasions to explain in detail what takes place and the reason why the reflash is required. I have posted the actually document with detailed information in the tech section of the forum and have also left links in the General Discussion forum to the safetly recall bulletin. Whether you are familiar with Polaris or not, it makes no difference what brand motorcycle we are talking about. A computer controlled, fuel injected combustion engine is still based on a program that is flashed into an EPROM or some other type of memory. If the map has a glitch due to certain inputs conflicting with a certain RPM range when they coincide with each other, it will require an alteration. Just to clarify, my comment about people reading is directed more toward people taking a moment and checking the Tech Reference forum and also searching the General Discussion forum, there are two other threads beside this one dealing with the very same thing that was asked within the first two days of the actually release of the Technical Bulletin from Polaris. I belive i was actually the first person to start the thread upon the Official release of the Safety Recall from Polaris versus the same recall that for some reason was relased almost 2 to 3 weeks prior to any dealer knowing anything about it or Polaris even letting someone know something about the recall. Harumph and so there. I am taking a short break and going to get a Dr. Pepper, might even add a little somethig to it since it is late. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Dwhite, we Va fellers have an excues to spel the way we do, so don't take no flack from no jack. But anyway, interesting note. I had the recall done, flashed by the dealer, ran a little better, but still coughed and cut out a few times. Changed the plugs which provided a monumnetal difference, but still did the cough and cut off every now and again. After reading the post on the exhaust gaskets, I thought to me self, "Why didn't I think of that." So I go out and check and see. Guess what? Loose. At least a good quarter turn on each one. I rode it and guess what? Runs much, much, much, much better. No surprises, except once. I got home and put another 1/8 of a turn on them. Now I think to myself, "Why didn't my dealer or Victory think about that?" I would be willing to say that they have been like that since I had the Vision and I could have solved a lot of problems months ago. Now the nagging question is, do I have burnt valves or at least edged. With the looks of the one plug on the front, I wonder. Now I have no reason to think there is except knowing the pop and die was from leaking exhaust gaskets. It runs new so I shouldn't complain, but just digging for the experts out there, Dwhite, that can provide some insight. I'm not trying to bust out on the dealer or Victory, but I wonder how much of the popping and stuff that triggered the recall is just really exhaust leak???

Posts: 64 US | Thanks David, I really wish I could get a straight answer from the local Victory dealer here in Jacksonville Florida where I live about my bike stalling, because it is an 09 there is no recall for stalling but if I rode up to 10 stop signs at least 5 of them the bike will stall on two different occasions I have almost dropped it because my feet were up already. I have 350 miles and the dealer says no recall so no problem. I checked the exhaust bolts and one of the front bolts was a little loose but this is scaring me now the engine seems to be running very hot and the acceleration seems very lazy my H-D 06 softail FI was a stock 88 with screamin eagles a power commander and ness big sucker and it was way more responsive, based on what I read here the 106's should really run. I finally got out of the dealer today to bring it in but if it was "something else" causing the problem I would be responsible for the bill, my bike is completely stock because there was no stage 1 download when I purchased it so I decided not to buy the kit.

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | ness_fan - try replacing your plugs and ask your dealer to do a stock reflash if there is no recall. You're dealing with a computer and it can be done at anytime they'll do it for you. Looking back at my problems with stalling and such, I just wonder if it was doing things out of sequence. When I got the bike the plugs may have already been fouled with 10 miles on it. My dealer rode it several times and sweared that it never did what I said it was doing. I could believe them because it didn't do it everytime. When I did the 5k service, the bike ran better, not as much stall, in fact it didn't stall for a while, but it did pop a lot. The tech had cleaned the plugs, so I attributed to them being fouled. I put several more miles on the bike before the recall, and when I took it in, that's all they did. It seems to me they would have checked out my plugs as well as for an exhaust leak, but didn't. They didn't have the stock NGK plugs so I went to the local Pep Boys and got the champion copper plus RA8HC cross-match and put them in. Ran, great, like a scoulded dog, except with the pop and cut off occassionally. Of course you can see my frustration, but fast forward a day or do when I saw it mentioned about the exhaust leak, viola! Problem seems to be cured. So my point is, do all at the same time, recheck the exhaust, of course be careful as you don't want to be down for a stud broke. But don't simply tighten them, replace them. That is my next move to ensure many more happy (s)miles. Oh and when I didn't think it could run better, it seems to run like a scoulded dog off the line, no more reving up to get 'er to go and making sure it didn't leave me at the light. Also, no more cranking cranking to get it started, it seems to start now at the touch of the button.

Posts: 64 US | did you use new exhaust gaskets? I see lloydz has some different thicker ones, I will clean the plugs today and then take it in tuesday and ask for a stock reflash and have them do the 500 mile service, prices for the 500 mile service also vary jax powersports wants 170.00 I told them I have my own oil (I use amsoil in everything) so he said it would be 110 not sure what all they do.
Thanks again

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I haven't replaced them yet, but since I had to tightened them down a lot I figure I should. I used a 3/8 drive standard ratchet, 13mm socket and it was at least a 1/4 turn on all except one. To me that is a lot so I figure there is some carbon build up and I'm asking for it to start doing it again so I might as well replace them. I'm going to do them myself because if I give it to the dealer who knows when I'll see my Vision again unless I go for visitation rights. Oh, and what do you get for your $110.00, mostly an inspection, it's all in your Rider's Manual. Now with that said, you're getting Victory to do it and you're keeping your local dealer in business, which is a good thing.

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | The tech showed me a trick to get the wires off and they come right off. Use a large, or long needle nose pliers. Put a little piece of cardboard on the flat at the edge of the jug to keep from maring. Using the edge of the jug as a fulcrum, grasp the top portion of the plug cover/connection and gently pull up, comes right off. After you do all the tightening and plug changing, get the dealer to do a reflash, I take it you still have stock pipes? If so then they can do that ANYTIME, it is the others they have to have a passcode from Victory for. (I think). Hope this fixes your problem, if so you think you'll have even a newer cool bike. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I'm not sure where you are, is it cold, cool or hot? In cold weather you might not tell a great difference, but moderate to warm climate, I woult think there is a significant difference. Keep pinging DWhite28 and see what he can do for you. I think it sounds like a warranty problem and you'll need to give it to the dealer for a while to figure out. |

| I finally got mine flashed on Saturday. I was not getting any stalling, but I was getting a bit of decel popping. I had 4 pops yesterday and none on today's 300+ mile ride. It seems like it has addressed some of the decel popping for me. Tim

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | efhut1, personnally, I would check the plugs, change the exhaust flange gaskets and have them flash it again. Make sure there are no exhaust leaks anywhere. I'm sure I'm not saying anything new, but sometimes the simplist things are overlooked or not done in order. One more note, ambient tempature has a big effect, so if you in below 60degree weather I wouldn't expect more than about 34-36mpg.

Biggest problem is damned clock flashing. Did you know you can't set the clock if your gas-lo warning is activated? I know..... GRRRR |

Posts: 332 Dale, Indiana | Reflash done today.
Since we tried it two Saturdays ago (when Victory is closed) they had the email with the download code all ready to go today.
They did the reflash, tightened my header bolts, and replaced two screws that were missing behind the front access panel in 20 minutes plus 5 minutes for test ride. (Screws on relay was checked two Saturdays ago …. And were tight).
Bike seems about the same.
It does seem to pickup a little better and it sounds different (but maybe I am looking for some kind of change).
No popping or missing ,,,…. Never had it before though.
For some reason my average speed indicator keeps resetting to 20 (never did that before). Plus, when I refueled the bike (first stop after leaving the shop) I noticed my average fuel mileage reset when I zero'd out my trip meter.
Some guy was acting like an azz in a mini van while I was working my way out of town, so I went from 0 to 80 after the last light and let him look as goofy as any want-a-bee in a mini van can look as he saw me get smaller in the distance.
Can't tell anything about fuel mileage since it was crazy windy here today and I had a headwind most of the way home (driving 80mph didn't help much either).
Lost much time having this done anyway.
Stopped at Wal-Mart to pickup some boxer shorts. Some guy walked over and said he wanted to see a Vision in person … then we talked shop for a bit.
Stopped at my Western Star truck dealer to return a wrong part. Cleaned out the place since most everybody came out to look at bike and ask questions.
Then stopped at the Windys to try out new Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. Got stopped by an older couple who never saw anything like it.
Then rode towards home and stopped at local parts store to pickup a light for my truck. Parts guys went out to look at bike.
Reminds me of the Red Cross Poker Run I went on last Sunday.
At every stop there was a crowd around my bike.
One stop was at a bike shop that builds trikes. The owner looked the Vision over and told me how nice a trike a Vision would make, and he could make me a deal if I'd let him play.

Posts: 294 rhode island | just did the recall today along with a new download for the ness exhaust, they said the new flash would
add a little more fuel at the low to mid throttle positions. The bike ran good before now seems a bit stronger
It never had a stalling problem.

Oh, Check, check, check, check, check, check, check your exhaust flange, check your exhaust flange. (Sung to the tune of Shake your Booty by KC and the Sunshine Band) Anyway, it worked for me after I experience the same. New plugs, tightened the exhaust flange that was leaking, now it runs like a new bike. |

Posts: 53 Ann Arbor, MI | Peppier acceleration but still pops. I've checked the plugs and exhaust. Hasn't stalled in 300 miles since the remap and doesn't feel like it will now. I have more confidence in it not stalling now as I roll up to a stop or turn. I used to keep a little roll on the throttle. |

I've not done it yet, but I've got new gaskets that I'm going to replace as I fear there still may be a little leak. Also, I'm not sure, but I think there is a place it might leak at the come together that could cause the same thing. Before this is over, I'll know a little about the freedom motor, or at least I think I will. |

Posts: 37 Kewaskum, WI | I had the reflash done several weeks ago. Since the dealer I normally take my bike to is 60 minutes away, I decided to go with the local dealer (5 minutes away). When I left the bike with them, I indicated that it had the Stage 1/Level 2, and the tech said they would take care of getting the proper download.
Upon picking up the bike, they indicated that the recall was done and I rode away. After several weeks of riding, I was not at all impressed with the results. In fact, I noticed significantly more popping than before. I contacted my regular dealer and had them look up the VIN for recall history. They indicated that the recall was marked complete, however appeared to have the stock download in it. They called Polaris and confirmed this. I guess this would explain why my bike ran worse after the recall. Because of the time of year (it's getting packed away for winter), I will have this addressed in the spring.
The moral of this story is, make sure your bike is reflashed with the proper download, and always take your bike to a dealer you trust (even if you have to drive a little further).
The end.

Posts: 377 O'Neill, Nebraska | Had this done today and the performance is not much better than when I had the S1/L1 remap done. What has improved is the amount of popping had truly declined and I must admit that this engine does seem to change with age.
I just passed 5000 miles and it just seems to get smoother and smoother. What an awesome MC! |
