Posts: 15 Pittsburgh, PA United States | I am new to the forum and from Pittsburgh. I have went to a demo day and had a chance to ride a Vision. It was Awesome! I am currently looking for a used VV. I am looking to spend around $10,500. How much milage is too much? Has anyone on this forum bought a used Vision? Is 36,000 mi. for around $10k for a 2008 Vision tour premium a fair price? I want to find a reliable Vision. Any help would be much appreciated.

Posts: 103 Davenport, IA | Personally, I think that is a really fair price. I have a 2009 with 36K miles, bought new, very well maintained, but wouldn't let it go for that price. So if you could get one for that price with 36k on clock, you should go for it! The Vision is an awesome bike. When riding, you never want to get off. I just wish I had more time to ride. |

Posts: 15 Pittsburgh, PA United States | Ok. I have one dealer 5 miles down the road. I see going to the dealer for things like fork seals or to have bearings checked. One dealer told me that if I buy a Vision it should definitely be serviced every 15k mi. Supposedly thing like fork seals and bearings.

I spent a long time searching on Craigslist and eBay and all the other sites until I found what I wanted. I got mine in Altoona from the original owner. I think I got a really good deal but it sure was hard waiting and waiting for it! |

Visions are as reliable as Goldwings, and you know their reputation. I consider the Vision to be a "V-Twin Goldwing" and that is a compliment. I used to have Goldwings.
I bought my 2008 Vision Tour Premium new and I would hate to take only $10,000 for it today. It's worth more than that to me. Nothing has come on the market that makes me want to replace it, neither the newer Visions, nor the newer Goldwings.
Find one in the color and with the options you want and go for it.

Lol! They do all have cams. Two of them in each head, along with four valves in a hemi head. There is a lot of hidden performance in those stock heads that the stock cams and stock ECU programming do not access. It's there in the design, but the factory tune leaves it on the table.
Johnny is referring to the Lloydz cam upgrade. It, along with 2 or 3 complimentary components, one of which is a fuel controller such as a Power Commander or Lloydz VFCIII, will increase the rear wheel horsepower of the stock Vision from about 80 to 83 HP to around 110 to 120 HP. Seriously. The Vision with Lloydz cam upgrades spanks the 1800 Goldwings while still getting great gas mileage. You might look for a Vision that already has the Lloydz cams if think you want Goldwing beating power. It's addictive, easy to get without any motor work, and remarkably cheap compared to the power increase. 1800 Goldwings have about 100 rear wheel horsepower (118 advertised).
The Vision uses exactly the same tires as the 1800 Goldwing. Shopping for "Goldwing tire set specials" from the online retailers turns up the best deals.
Some Vision owner audiophiles have desired an amplifier/speaker upgrade and have done their own. I listen through helmet headsets and have no complaints about the stock system.

They (Vic) started trying to save money after 2012 and deleted some standard items from the Vision (HID lighting etc..) So I found one in Alabama, 2011, Crimson and Black with only 3021 miles on her. I flew to Nashville and the dealer met in long term parking at the airport, we finalized the deal and I rode home to Austin,TX. That was in October of this year. Three days after I got home I changed the oil and tires, packed her up and went on a 5000 mile trip. In June I went on a 6000 mile trip on a Moto Guzzi Stelvio and in July my wife went on a 5000 mile trip on a FJR up the PCH. She commented to me that she wished we would have had the the Vision for the trip up the PCH. All I can say that it's good to be back in the saddle of a Victory Vision. |

When test riding bikes for possible purchase, you can tell the difference between the stock cams and Lloydz cams by how the bike pulls over 4500 RPM. Below that number, there isn't much difference. The stock cams start to taper off after 4500 RPM and the stock rev-limiter kicks in at 5500 RPM. With Lloydz cams, the bike starts to pull even harder after 4000 RPM and does not taper off until after 5800 RPM and is still pulling hard at 6000 RPM. Most people who get the cams have the rev-limiter raised to 6000 or 6400 RPM to take advantage of the extra power.
To get to the 110 RWHP level only requires Lloydz cams, Lloydz top filter (more air in), and a fuel controller (more fuel), all running through the stock exhaust (which flows well enough to support 135 HP). There are also adjustable intakes and adjustable timing wheels that can get you even more power--up around 120. Exhaust changes are primarily done for the sound. They do little to enhance the power. All of this is on a stock 106 motor. You don't go into the engine at all, unless you count the cam covers. Stock reliability is maintained as is the overall fuel economy. There is no downside to the Lloydz upgrades.

The 2008s are known for developing a glitchy gear read out. The display will flicker around through the gears numbers before settling on the correct gear. Started at about 10, 000 miles. Doesn't really bother me, I can find the gears without the readout! ; )
Wouldn't trade my bike for some of the new ones out there. I do wish I had the ABS brakes though. |

I've never had any problems with the bike itself. Not even the glitchy gear readout some report. I have had some issues with the original radio and mine was replaced under warranty with a 2009 radio. That solved the problem. The temperature readout on the dash on the 2008s have a flaw in the computer programming where they begin to read in Celcius instead of Fahrenheit once the real temperature goes down freezing. In other words, if you are riding and the temperature is dropping and goes to freezing or colder, the readout displays 33F and then goes to 0C instead of 32F. As the temperatures continue to drop, it reads in -1, -2, -3, etc. Annoying, but once I realized what it was telling me, it is still a useful tool.
Mechanically, I have had no issues with the bike. The only thing my 2008 does not have that the later models offer, and that I would like to have, is reverse. There are times when it would come in handy.

It even came with the body panel for when you don't use the trunk! Found it at a nice dealership in Erie, PA called Off Road Express. They are great! Even letting me leave it there until the weather is nice enough to ride it home.

chas106, dont forget 2008 is the first year for a Vision.. i had one.. it was great. i had to replace my speedometer housing and rear rotor before i traded it in back in 2011.. interestly enough the rotor had a revised part number when i replaced it... btw i see we are in the same back yard.. |

i can tell you personally, after owning (2) visions , the 15k mile servicing is a bunch of $hit... i was brain washed into wanting to have it done as well.. so much so that i almost argued with both of my dealers. and both of them said the same thing.. your fork oil does not need replaced or seal at 15000 miles, UNLESS there is a issue with them.. (leaking) The one dealer told me that they have replaced the fork oil at 15k on a few of them and the oil was still very clean and it was at that moment they felt it was a waste of their time and the customer money.. (they are busy enough with atv servicing ) i traded my 08 with something like 20-22k miles on it and no different feeling in the forks.. i say no different feeling cause when i picked up my 11 vision, it wasnt any more firm than the one i just traded in ...
now last fall i did the steering bearing lube servicing.. i did it at 17700 miles.. the bearings on my 11 were still greased and they were clean.. i do remember readying where a handful of guys on 08 had steering bearings that were not properly greased and it later caused them issues... the steering bearing greasing is all Labor... its a little involved. i made a tool so i didnt have to pay victory $70-$100 for their tools, to only use 1-2-3 times ... if you are a handy person, and get decide to lube your steering bearing yourself. id be more than willing to help you and bring my custom made socket over for you to use.. then all you would be payng for is the grease and nothing more... saving yourself a 3 digit number in service charges..... |
