Had to get a new victory rim for the front. Shop has replaced tires , new valve, even tried a tire sealant. Loose about
6 to 8 lbs every 6 days, Any chance the casting has microscopic holes for the air to leak out. Rim is about 4 years
old. Anyone else have this problem. Any help would be appreciated. ( Dunlap 3 )

Take it off of the front forks, seal your wheel bearings with 100mph duct tape (old military term) and then air it up to 50psi and submerge the entire wheel in a tub of water. You will find the leak.

Try to pinpoint the area of the leak. Tire or rim. Kind of like a bicycle tire or tube with a large tub of water.

It is possible the rim is porous. The above suggestion has a lot of merit. If you do not want to take the wheel off and submerge it, you can make a soapy solution using dish soap and water in a squirt bottle and just spray it around the wheel and tire. The leak will make lots of little bubbles.

Hmmm, I couldn't imagine that air could leak through the rim alone. I would break down the tire and look at the rim carefully for something stuck around the bead or crack in the rim. You'll find the culprit area by doing the submerging in water, but you'll still have to take the tire off. Me thinks you have debris around the bead or around the stem hole. Best to you in finding the issue.

So I see 2 possible leak paths if the tire is good. There is of course the rim but another area often neglected is the sealing surface where the tire seats to the rim. Any kind of burr or irregularity there would be a source of a leak too.

did someone scratch the living $hit out of the side of the rim taking on and off all those tires? i like the idea of taking the wheel off the bike.. tire on the wheel, full of air, putting it under water and finding out exactly the location of where this air is leaking.....

With my uncles rim , it was the casting itself, not the edge or valve stem area. If I remember correctly it had developed a very very fine crack. He's got around 25k on his bike.

What did a rim cost you? I have a set of an 2008 with less than 10K on them. (8 I think).
I listed on eBay some time ago. No bids.

I found this problem way back while working the tire shop in the Air Force in the early 70s. People are anal about using soapy water to mount a tire. I had a tire back then with a slow leak. Did every trick known to man. Then I carefully examined the rim lip. The soap had built up on the rim then got small cracks in it. Removed all the soap and it was fine. I tell places do NOT use lube on my rims. I get all sorts of bitching. After they are all done they tell me how easy it is to mounts tires to my rims. Right size tire for rim no lube needed. Even when mounting by hand.

Something to look into.
