Posts: 11 Trenton, Ohio | Need some help guys. My 09 Vision started making a squeaking noise the other day after I had been riding for about 5-6 hours. Could not find anything. Next morning noise came back almost immediately and was louder (a lot louder), took bike back home and only thing I could think of my brake pads. Installed a new set of pads, front and rear, fronts were really worn, rears about half. Went riding and no noise, then squeaking noise started then went away. Went riding for about an hour and never heard the noise. Went riding today, after about 4 hours the noise came back and was pretty loud. Noise went away again before I got home. It is a squeak down low, can't tell if it coming from front or back. Have only heard noise while bike is rolling. It is not coming from engine and does not matter what gear I am in or if clutch is in or out. What could it be and why would it come and go? |

Posts: 1229 Rancho Cucamonga, CA | Why would the squeak stop if it's your belt and you pull in the clutch? The belt keeps moving when the clutch is pulled. Yes, it may be that it only squeaks under load, but it may squeak when not under load too. |

Posts: 11 Trenton, Ohio | Took front and rear wheels off this morning. Believe I found the squeaking noise. Rear bearing on sprocket side is bad - real bad! Bearing seal was damaged, cage is in pieces, and some of the balls are missing. With a bearing this bad figured I would have heard a lot worse noise and sooner. Guess I should but a lottery ticket!! |

Posts: 10 Huntsville, AL | Glad you found it! My first guess was a wheel bearing but with only 23K on it....I'll monitor mine from here on out. [OBTW At least it wasn't an issue with the pillion.... Those squeaks can be EXPENSIVE to fix ;-) ] |

Posts: 11 Trenton, Ohio | Going to try and post a picture of the bearing. FYI, I contacted the witchdoctor and asked him for some advice and he was very helpful. Was planning on purchasing SKF bearings from the witchdoctor but he is currently out of stock. Will be contacting local bearing distributor tomorrow. Just to let everyone know, the reason for the bearing failure is it looks like the lip seal failed and allowed water to get into the bearing. Water and bearings do not mix well. There were calcium deposits on the tube that is inside the wheel housing. Front bearings looked pristine; however, going to change them also while I have everything apart.
Thanks again to the witchdoctor!!

Wow, talk about a picture being worth 1000 words, that was it. How in the Hell did that come apart like that, and at 23K? Crazy...

Posts: 1365 Central Maryland | Seals apparently suck on this bike. Front drive sprocket seal failed on mine at 17K, now I see another wheel seal that failed at 23K
Parts made in China?
