Posts: 348 Sturbridge, Mass | Hi there, I had an amp and speakers added using a fellow members guide and parts a while back. The write up is in the tech section- amp and fan were added into saddlebag.
Had an issue last year with the cross over failing, and now I think it has failed again (place that installed it- has been unable/unwilling ?) to trouble shoot this time.
getting power to stereo, but nothing but crackling from speakers on any setting ( radio, ipod, etc) also get crackling while riding- even with stereo off.
It did not go out while riding, went out after bike had been turned off.
Looking for ideas/help on changing out items to minimixe future problems.
Any stereo places in Mass will be appreciated that would work on it- called two other local dealers and they wont work on it.
Thanks
Jeff

Fountain Inn, SC United States | Jeff - what do you have in your signal chain after the Vision radio? (i.e., JBL 20db pad > JBL crossover > Fosgate PBR300x4 > Polk db521s)

Fountain Inn, SC United States | Speculation on my part but I think things point to the Scosche SLC4 or faulty wiring (something may have come loose).Check the connections to be sure everything is tight (especially the ground wires). Next try to unplug the output of the Scosche SLC4 (the RCA's?) and plug them into a know working sound source like an iPod headphone output (you may have to use cable adapters) set to low volume. If you get clean sound, the amp & cable are fine and the problem lies somewhere up the signal chain (Scosche SLC4, radio, wiring). Next thing would be to try and bypass the Scosche SLC4 by adapting the radio's output to the amp's inputs (or the RCA's from above). Just set the radio to very low volume since its putting out speaker level and the amp is expecting line-level. If you get sound to the speakers, it means the Scosche SLC4 is probably bad. There are a slew of speaker level converters on the market, you might try a different brand.

| hottierod, That was my tech posting. Sorry to hear the amp went out. It has been over 4 years since that post and I am still using the same set-up. Make sure you have the speed av turned all the way down. That will take out the amp for sure.
