Posts: 804 Perry Hall, MD | 2008 Vision - yesterday leaving office with temp around 80.
Symptom: Slight lag in starting Amp gauge dropped to 9-v when cranking.
1/4 mile from office stopped at traffic light and idle was fast around 1700rpm (never experienced before).
After hitting throttle 2x it dropped to normal around 1100rpm.
Moment later it stalled but started right up with no issue.
About 2 miles on beltway I got stuck in traffic and at normal idle it stalled again.
Rest of ride I kept rpms up and had no problem, amp gauge showed good charge, but it had more
popping which I assume was just due to increased rpms when shifting.
Checked: battery 12.72 v but dash amp gauge shows around 11 prior to cranking (on early models this
reportedly shows battery charge).
Terminals tight with star washers already in place.
Main relay connections tight.
I had planned on trying out new camper this weekend but too gun shy to be pulling it with this going on. Going to clean terminal and relay connections, but any suggestions on what else I should be looking at would be appreciated. |

Posts: 24 Chicago | Check you ground connections. Never had any issue like this on a Victory but have on a few cars in the past. Next would be battery system might show charge but battery not maintaining and with lights,computer,fuel injection ect all pulling it just can't keep up seen this issue on my 2000 Hayabusa replace battery and all was good. |

Posts: 804 Perry Hall, MD | Thanks, I was already leaning towards replacing the battery. The thing that is most confusing to me is the high idle before it stalled the first time. Can not imagine that it isn't related some way, but makes no sense to me. |

| when running or ideling volt meter should read 14v
yes when you turn key on it will show you battery voltage but only then |

| The gauge on the dash is a volt meter only, not an amp meter. Shows battery voltage key on/engine off-shows battery voltage/charging system voltage w/engine running, does not show rate of charge (amps = current flow) |

| The voltage gauge when you turn key on will show you battery volts. When you start the bike it will show you charging volts and that should be 14v. It will not tell you any thing about battery once bike is started.
Of coarse when you turn key on it shows 11v cause of all the light that are on. |

That does make sense - I started taking notice of fluctuations in the gauge such as how much draw the brake lights or halogen aux. lights put on it. |

Posts: 13 Lum, MI United States | My 09 vision has always reads between 15-16 volts running down the road and that is just due to the gauge being off cal a little bit. When you check with a meter it should read 14.2 volts. It not a big deal as long as you know where normal is for your bike. If it ever changes from your normal day to day reading then you know you are having an issue. |
