Posts: 1117 Northeast Ohio | I searched and searched this morning, looking for definitive posts regarding putting aftermarket exhaust on a bike without uploading a new flash to the factory ECU or installing a VFCIII. I thought I had read a number of you are doing this with either the Ness Big Honkers or Cycle Dragon exhaust. I really want to get the Power Commander that is coming out in a few weeks, but the exhaust will be here in a few days and me waiting, fat chance. What can I expect with just putting on exhaust without adding more fuel. Seems most are experiencing popping. Is that it?
I have read that the factory ecu is on the lean side and am concerned about leaning it out more with the honkers. My dealer tells me it is $130 for the licensing of the S1L2 map. To me, that is too much for a mass marketed reflash. I would rather throw a few more at something that allows me to tune to a greater degree.

| The Cycle Dragon pipes require no level download according to the guys selling them. |

Posts: 294 rhode island | I just put a set of bighonkers on with the down load and K&n filter, my dealer said if you don't reflash
you'd be running way to lean, with probable piston damage.

Posts: 1117 Northeast Ohio | I'll bite the bullet on the factory DL for now. Sandman, did you flash to S1L2 or L1? I guess $130 is like filling up my SUV. ![](http://vision-riders.com/bb/images/emoticons/frown.gif) |

Posts: 293 Arkansas | You don't really own the flash after paying $130 for it. You can use it as long as you wish, as long as you don't need a reflash. (unless it is for a covered warranty issue). If you ever change and want it reflashed, you pay the full $ again! Happened to me when changing from the SL1L1 flash back to stock in a VFCIII trouble-shooting strategy. Didn't work and couldn't be resolved; VFC went back and now stuck with the stock download with SL1L1 pipes, unless I pony up the full price again-no thanks! Runs really well anyhow with no ill effects that I can see/hear with over 10000 miles on it in this configuration. |
