Hey gang:

Has anyone did anything to their console to stop the reflection in the windshield other than paint it?

I've seen several posts about this. I never had an issue with glare. I have since painted mine gloss black. Still nothing.

Dave:

I think it must be an angle of veiw thing. I have the same problem in my wifes car. Im 6'5 and she is 5'11 - she never notices the reflections, and they drive me crazy.

I have no problem on my Vision with this issue. I have the stock sheild (adjustable) and it is usually set about 2" below my nose depending on speed.

Do you have the adjustable height windsheild?

The angle of the sheild changes as the sheild moves up and down, so if you dont have this feature on your Vison perhaps it would be worth the upgrade. If you do perhaps, changing to a taller or shorter sheild would allow you to move the adjuster until you have an angle where its no longer a problem.

I have had issues with glare, and I'm thinking of painting my console either black or matching grey. I'm 5'8" and the reflection is pretty bad, especially when the windshield is all the way up. i can't see past the window so I have to raise or lower my head to look past. When riding solo I ride with shield down, but when 2-up it is raised.

I powdercoated mine. look in the article section of this site. I had glare from the aluminum dash from the day I test rode it. after powdercoating a gloss black, no glare!! I know someone even put stick-on carbon fiber on theirs. Looks really nice, too!-----Metalguy

glare is terrible and the distortion is worse. i think painting the console black will work on the reflection from it and i also checked out the graphite option mentioned above and it looks viable. i pulled into the dealership the other day and a vision was parked 20' in frot of me and i ccould see the same reflection in the top 4" of the windshield on that bike too. i am 6'2" and can look over the windshied if i have to but i should't have to. it is adangerous condition. at first i thought a taller windshield might work but then i realized the reflection wouldn't go away. i also have a lot of distortion in the top part of the shield. taller one might help that. the reall problem is that i have to lower the shield on hilly roads and that makes it tough on my passenger.

I can tell you that changing away from the brushed aluminum will cure the glare, and maybe the windshields offered by aftermarket will not have the distortion. I am sure not thrilled with the distortion in mine, but at least that pesky glare is gone.-----Metalguy

Guys:

I have the adjustable windshield. If the sun is behind me I get the glare. If it's to my right, left or ahead of me I don't.

Believe it or not, I have 2 new Cee Bailey's windshields in the garage. Too hot right now
to install. I am actually about ready to hook up a battery tender due to the heat.
I am also working on putting a Tow-Pac on my wife's scooter when I can deal with sweating
a little.

Why 2? Cee Bailey's designed their original shield based on Victory's 16". They didn't know
it was the short one. I ordered 2" over stock, but only received about the same sized shield.
(I didn't take the bubble wrap off) When I called Cee Bailey's, he knew exactly what happened.
He said he was mailing out about 7 replacements because of this. They changed their website
to list the inches now instead of plus or minus inches over-under stock.

Get this, he said don't worry about sending back the 1st. It was a gift from them. Now that is
customer service! Next shield I need for a bike, I'll order from them if they have it.

Yes,I had the "glare" issue but powdercoated the console flat black & painted the gauge cluster flat black. No more glare! I also upgraded the windshield to a 4" taller than stock unit from Cee Bailey's and now have no distortion either.

Found Carbon Fibre sheet at local car supply store and installed it on the console. We think it looks great.

Cee Bailey also sent me one that was stock size when I ordered one 2 inches taller. When I informed them they sent me the correct size at no charge and told me to keep the the stock size one as their gift.

Metalguy; I have the Bailey one in stock size which I installed, realized was too short and removed without the bike ever leaving the garage. It's the light grey tint no distortion, and it's back in the original packing and box. Wouldn't feel right charging anyone for it. If you want it it's your's for the shipping cost; let me know.

So, how was that done? Is the carbon fiber adhesive backed? Did you have to remove the console to do it? It's hard to tell from the image--is there a pattern to the carbon fiber? It really does look good.

Please, tell me more.....

The carbon fibre is adhesive backed. The console has to be completely removed from the bike. Took over an hour, hard to get the air bubbles out. Here's another pic.

I have the stock shield the tall C Bailey and the shorty C Bailey and i dont have any distortion in any of them or reflection issues.
It sounds as if this is a personal issue related to the riders height as it pertains to their viewing angle. Most likely a very slight raising of
the shield will alter the angle and cut the reflection. Cee Bailey sent me the wrong shield about 6 months ago and not only did he tell me to keep it, but he told me to ship it back to him when i wanted a shorty shield for summer and he would cut and polish it down for me at no charge. So i got two shields for the price of one YO CANNOT BEAT THOSE GUYS or their product.

Well, the book might tell you to remove the gage bezel and the V panel and open the glove box and remove the screws holding the panel on. Then it might tell you to lift up carefully and remove the wires, noting where the go. Then just might tell you to remove the screws that hold the radio on. Then it could tell you to remove the switches. You should be ready to paint. I would primer it first and allow to cure at least 48 hours before reinstalling. Don't ask me how I know.

I think the reflection mostly impacts taller riders.  Another thing you will have to paint/cover is the bottom of the chrome instrument bezel.  That small 6" wide section at the bottom (see the kenandpen photo above) will reflect onto the windshield.  Ken has since covered all the textured chrome on the bezel with the carbon fiber and it looks great on the black bike.

I bought the instrument bezel in Black. It is a Victory part that is only $35.00. I installed it yesterday and it made the instruments easier to read. It is cheap. Try it you may like it.

I had the reflection issue when I bought the STARSHIP....reminded me of a 'heads up' display....the ignition and the fours switches were reflected in my sight line.

I covered the console with the carbon fibre sheet and bought a can of KRYLON satin black spray paint and shot the instrument bezel at the same time.

The reflection issue was solved.

But if the sun is in the right position the chrome front tip overs are brutal.

edsasdelli,

All I had to do was use a small screw driver to carefully remove the metal clips from the old bezel and push them on the black one. I guess I could have ordered the clips as well.

I have since had my console coated in real carbon fiber. Afriend of mine covered it for me. I looked at the fake plastic film stuff, and it just reflects too much for my taste. -----Metalguy

I am 6'2" and have never noticed any reflection or distortion. In fact, after a good cleaning I am amazed at how clear the windshield can be. I guess my riding position just happens to put my eyes in a good spot. And, I guess I'm lucky I got a windshield without distortion.

A suggestion....

I bought a can of KRYLON Satin Black spray paint....$6.99............popped the instrument bezel off and sprayed it.....left it to dry on my workbench for several days and reinstalled it.....looks as good for a fraction of the Polaris price...

As for the reflection/glare off of the console....explored having a carbon fiber replica made to replace the console but the cost was prohibitive so I covered it with a vinyl carbon fiber film and it looks good and no more reflection/glare...

I'm just saying...

I have yet to see a chrome one, but a guy had his done in "black chrome" at the dealer, and it was smokin'! The whole bike was blacked out, and the trim was all done black chrome. Totally sweet. ------Metalguy
