With the very appreciated help of Chance Showell i attempted to Plasti Dip my forks on my 2011 Vision. I never liked how my Vision had alot of black, BUT... the forks were grey/silver ??!! So when i was told about this product i thought i might as well give it a try.... Super cheap $$ walmart even sells it. I did no prep work other than clean the forks with glass cleaner. No sanding. No primer.

here is a link to other uses for this product. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdCtzxkER7k

Looks nice. Did you tape it off and just use a flat black color?

I plasti-dip'd most of the chrome and brushed aluminum pieces about a year ago, didn't do the forks because I wasn't sure if that would some how cause them to "overheat". It's surprisingly easy, guess I'll get busy on those forks now.

That really looks good Arkainzeye. I have been planning on painting my lower front fort tubes as well; don't like the gray color. I was planning on using Krylon enamel (black) spray paint.

Why did you choose to use Plastidip though? So you could easily remove it if you didn't like it?

i really dont feel you should have any heat issues at all. unless you are using your Vision as a Dirt bike.. lol There are people who powder coat, chrome etc with no issues. And since these are right up in front where all the air/wind is i really feel if they did generate heat it wouldnt be a issue at all.

I see another difference between Harley owners and Victory owners. Harley owners will spend thousands of dollars for chrome to sit in the garage and show off once in a while. Victory riders will spend a few dollars on rattle can enhancements so they can ride, in style. Been there, do that!

Looks really good, job well done. I've used it on several things, including my modified/cut factory GPS mount. I'm not a good painter, though, so mine always has some runs or bubbles from heavy spray. I'd like to do all of the silver parts on my SSG, but I don't think I could put it on well enough to look good. Dig this -- if you don't want to watch the whole thing, at least go to about 10m in so you can see (and hear) how badass it came out.

I went and bought a can of the black Plasti-dip and tried it out on a scrap piece of aluminum I had laying around before I go all out and spray it on the fork. The question I have is how hard is this stuff to take off after it drys? The part I sprayed seems to have bonded so tight that I am not sure it will ever come off. Is there a trick to it?

Well I had a little time to paint the chrome instrument ring. It is so easy even a cave man can do it. The flat black just blends right into the whole dash. The forks will be next.

Anyone use simple spray black enamel (Krylon or the like) to do their forks; instead of Plasti-Dip? I'm looking for a more permanent paint job.

That's is true, but the beauty of it is all you have to do is get the spray can out and give it another shot. and if you don't like it, it comes right off. Kind of like giving a new paint job a test drive before you actually spend big money and hate it.

In regards to it being a painted surface.. isn't the entire front end of the vision painted??? The main difference is, 2-3 inches wide vs the entire front end "fairing" etc...

do you have any pictures or advice on how to tape things up. I have plasti-dipped a few pieces on the vision and I am at a loss on how to tape around the caliper and fender. any advice picture information would be great.

Sorry, I didn't take any photos with it taped. I bought 2 different widths of the blue painters tape and taped everything with that. I covered the entire disc brake, and the caliber. I taped up the edge of the fender and did use some brown paper to cover the fender. I sprayed the hex nuts too as I wanted everything black. Its no problem getting it off if I ever need to. I also taped up the reflector. I did get some overspray on the fender, but it comes right off. The 2 unpainted nuts on each side are on the fender. I might be doing those next.

Is there anything special to removing the wheel? When you put it back on, do you have to do anything special to align it or is just simply torque the bolts back down and go?

And how has cleaning bugs etc been on it since you did it?

Nope. Take off, put back on. Just make sure the direction of the tire is facing the same way when you put it back on. (Arrow on tire)

yes you should mark left and right wheel spacers. Stick a screw driver in the break pads and spread them open. Axle torque is 52 pounds

I've only done my gauge bezel so far. For those of you who have done the forks, how is cleaning with the dip? Here in WI we get lots of bugs on the forks and fender etc. Does plastidip clean up easily ?
