Posts: 341 West Salem, WI United States | I called one of the two dealers fairly local to me and asked the service manager about the 500 Service. What does it involve and how much. He said, we change the oil and check stuff over, looking for loose bolts etc. Then he asked if I was going to learn how to change my own oil, I told him I had been doing that on my Kingpin and Vstar before it. He said don't bother bringing it in, change your oil, look it over real good and then ride it. :-) I asked about the warrenty etc, he said just document the mileage in your owners manual. Then he said, it's a Victory, don't worry about it and ride. So, this is the first time I've actually used the Victory oil change kit. Took all of 15 minutes to change the oil in the Vision but... There are 2 parts I've never seen before, they clearly didn't match anything on the oil drain plug or filter, what are they for? Edit: The o-ring must be for the dipstick?

Posts: 3773 Pittsburgh, PA | my last few dealers all said the same thing.. dont worry about coming in for the 500-600 mile service ... its a glorified oil change... and they told me what to check. and so far on my last 5 bikes no bolts ever NEEDED tightened... doesnt mean i didnt check them. just means they were already tight and didnt need tightened anymore... |

The early bikes used a larger copper washer than the later bikes. Yes, they both use copper washers on the drain plugs, but they differ in size. Like I said, the LARGE copper washer is for the early bikes. The Vision uses a much smaller one. I have both. They are completely different sizes.
That's also the reason the kits come with 6 quarts of oil when the later bikes only take 4.5 quarts. The early bikes take 6 quarts.

They sell a 4.5 qt ($60.99) and a 6 qt kit ($70.99) now. I get why the extra washers now, I'll hang on to that o-ring and add the larger copper washer to my parts bin :-) |
