Posts: 305 Vineland, NJ United States | Thinking about going from Level 1 exhaust back to OEM exhaust. Can I retain the Gatlin tips? Will i have to adjust my VFC III? What parts do I actually need to do that? just mufflers, do I use same heat shields or do OEM use different heat shields? Any suggestions or comments appreciated. |

No doubt, BUT I'll bet you also had the ECU reflashed to the Stage 1 map at the same time, which is where the performance increase actually came from. The mufflers just don't make that much difference by themselves.
The same or better performance could be had with the stock exhaust and a fuel controller and top filter.
Pretty much the same Stage 1 performance can be had with the Stage 1 map, intake, and the stock exhaust.
The fuel and timing control, along with more intake capacity (top filter) is where the performance actually comes from. The stock exhaust isn't restrictive on a 106. It's just quiet.
Don't think so? Check out Lloydz dyno page and the 116 inch Vision. He got 137.39 horsepower and 133.53 torque on a 116 build running the STOCK exhaust. The stock or Stage 1 mufflers aren't going to hold a little 106 back, and other mufflers aren't going to make all that much difference in performance either.

That'll do it!
I've had fast bikes and drag raced them on street and strip for many years.
I've also found that is just as much, and maybe even more fun riding slow bikes fast, and much more fun than riding fast bikes across the country slowly.
