Posts: 11 Madison, AL United States | I know there have been a few threads on this subject before but I don't recall seeing anything conclusive. So I have an 08 Vision. 13k miles. I've owned it for a month now. Put about 500 miles on it. I have put a new set of tires on and had the belt adjusted by a reputable shop. When the bike is cold I get a loud constant squealing noise (not a chirp) when accelerating through the gears. Fast or slow makes no difference. Pull in the clutch and the noise stops. The clutch does not seem to slip at all. After it gets good and warm the noise will stop. Once it cools down it's back to the same noise again.
I have changed the oil and am using the Victory recommended oil. No change after that. The Victory demo ride trailer will be close to me on May 1st and I'm hoping they have someone who can tell me definitively what the problem is. Can anyone here educate me on what the noise may be? I guess the question of is it doing damage to keep riding it can't be answered without knowing what the problem is. Hoping someone has had the same issue and had it fixed. Kind of embarrassing leaving my neighborhood with that noise every time.

Posts: 11 Madison, AL United States | If it were the belt not being adjusted right wouldn't it make noise non stop and not just untill it gets warm? And why would pulling the clutch in make the noise stop if it were the belt? |

The belts often only make noise until they warm up. Having said that, you are correct about the clutch. In my experience it makes no difference if the clutch is in or out. One consideration would be if the noise is related to road speed or engine rpm. As you go through the gears does the noise change in pitch with the engine or stay the same related to road speed? That would tell you if the problem is related to the engine/primary drive or to the trans/final drive.

I don't notice the pitch changing as I go through the gears. I will try tonight and pay more attention to that. Thanks |

Posts: 340 Regina Saskatchewan Canada | If you want to figure out if it is the belt rub ivory soap on both sides of the belt. If it is the belt the noise will go away but only temporary. The belt wasn't properly adjusted when the tire was changed. |

Posts: 161 Albuquerque NM | I agree with what others have said about the belt being adjusted poorly. I suspect there is enough slack in the belt that when you pull the clutch the tension is released and the noise goes away. Crawford nailed it when he suggested the soap to lube the belt a little bit. The other way to test my theory is take note if there is a difference in the noise on acceleration vs. deceleration.

| My bike did the same thing. I would use soap on it but found it did not last every long.i was told that when the belt got a buildup of dirt on it it would squeak. My viv dealer told me to clean it with hand cleaner. So now about 3 or4 times a year I clean my belt. What I do is rub down the belt with hand cleaner, then drive my 6 blocks to the car wash and clean it out. Use hand cleaner that does not have solvent in it. |

Was not out of alignment. Said he doesn't know why they get that way. Only that when replaced the noise goes away.

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | If you've read my other posts on this subject, my prediction of the belts life is about 6 years. You are proving the point that 30,000 miles is the recommended mile change is close to target for the "average" rider. Well, I know 13,000 miles is not much, especially for a Vision, but at 6 years you'll have dry rot. I believe these belts will last well past 100,000 miles if you are averaging more about 25,000 miles a year. |

A belt should last seventy five thousand miles. If you stay off dirt roads and keep it clean. If they aligned the belt correct there should be no chirping. If it still chirps its your pulley. Vic has replaced pulleys cause they were made wrong. In your case it has to be belt and bad tech |
