Rattle rattle. It holds up fine at 153,230 miles I would never go back to a Gold Wing. Can't handle the knee position, killer to me.

+1. Like the sitting position as well as is is better on my hips and lower back. SO even admits she likes it better or as good as the wing.

Things I don't like:

Electronics are not as plug and play but there are many vids on youtube with some do it yourself directions. The CB was $400 more for the unit and I will have to pay for installation as it is above my comfort level and tool supply.

I have a bushtec trailer hitch and cannot do darkside like I would like. Tires are harder to install. Can't lay the Vision over like the Wing and just yank off and go to Walmart to have them install tire, come back and install and in less than 1 hour total, be on a ride.

I would put the handling as good or a little better than the wing. Ride in twisties is like a float of a grand touring car, instead of like a jumbo crotch rocket. ( I enjoy both, they are just different)

Not as many aftermarket shiny parts if that is your thing and some that are available are not cheap.

All in all, I was on a VTX when they first came out and encountered the same thing in the aftermarket arena so it is not something that is a big deal to me. Spent 10 years on Wings, with custom seats, risers, Mic O Pegs, etc, and the VV is just stock. Going to CO twice this year and to Phoenix and won't miss anything except the CB radio. There are just too many things on the VV that are so much better for my riding today.

My favorite difference is the adjustable windshield.

Things I miss about the Wing.
1. Quiet
2. Storage
3. On board compressor
4. Stereo
5. It's a Honda

Things I like about my 08 Vision Street Premium

1. Style
2. Nice exhaust note
3. Made in the USA by a USA Co.
4. Power windshield
5. Handling
6. Comfort

Had an 1800 wing for a year & 26K miles. I couldn't ride more than 80 - 100 miles and my ass was screaming. 1st longer ride on the VV was almost 3 hours and never got sore. VV is not a heavy pig like the GW is in slow maneuvers. IMHO a wing isn't in the same class. 50 K in 2 years and no issues.

a few things i liked about my friends 2010 wing were. standard reverse and center stand. but what he really wish he had was 6th gear and the power windshield. imagine there is more, but thats what stands out the more to me right now

I was thinking of getting a Honda F6B in a couple of years to complement my Vision, but from the sounds of it, sounds like a bad idea. I keep hearing how much more performance you get on the F6B 6 cylinder over the Vision V-Twin. Any truth to that?

No. No truth to that. F6b has more hp and tq. At a price of 19,900 for a base f6b it is lacking many goodies. Not a lot of mods can improve the Hondas perf. For only 1500.00 with Kevinx, still cheaper than a f6b with comparible equip, the vision with cams will have more power, more torque, more comfort, more room, better handling, etc.
Good luck. I love the wings, just need a v-twin, wing seemed like a covertible civic to me. Vision feels like a motorcycle. But that's just me.

Sure, many can tolerate the riding position, I'm just not one of them. I know a die-hard Wing rider who had a 1 hour ride rule, for safety reasons. Hmmmm, that's about as long as I can push it, then becomes very painful.

Tolerate?

This rider sold his 2012 Goldwing because it had 96,000 miles and bought another new 2012.

He has completed 20 IBA BBG1500 rides. A BBG1500 is over 1500 miles in less than 24 hours.

He has also completed 2 BBG Trifecta's - (4500+ miles in 3 days)

He finished 9th in the Iron Butt Rally.

He has completed many more and can buy any bike he wants. - http://www.gregrice.com/bike/bike.html

Tolerate is a fair assessment. I admire those who can endure. It's called iron butt for a reason. The vision makes it easier.

I'll try to post some detail on the belt guard. I think the build pictures may have been on a laptop that died!

It did take a lot of time and test fitting.

Many IBR's done on BMW, HD's, and other bikes. Does not mean that any of them would be more comfortable for another rider. I have 2 Saddlesores and a Bun Burner on wings, decked out with custom seats, risers, micopegs and I have one Bun Burner on the Vison. All were similar, but the Vision was stock and I was more comfortable after that ride than any others.

This guy has a treasure trove of information on his website! Really cool how he integrated a garmin Nuvi 2797 into his comm system on the wing. I'd like to try to do that. Thanks for the link Rollin!

I cross-shopped the 2013 'Wing with the Vision along with the touring offerings from HD.

In the end, the Vision fit me better. It is far more comfortable "for me" and I personally like the styling. I have a number of friends in MC clubs that shake their heads on the Vision styling but I didn't buy to impress anyone but me.

I respect the hell out of the 'Wing but the Vision is a different feel. With a handful of tweaks, it is a superb performer (as if it was a slouch stock) and it is quite a head turner.

Go ride one, new or borrowed from an owner and make up your own mind. I can say that honestly if I hadn't ridden one, I'm not sure I would have bought one mainly due to the polarizing styling. It really does ride that good...

There was a guy on the RedWing19 Virgina run that was doing it on a Sporty.  He had a few mods to it though, like a bigger fuel tank and a different seat.  Not sure what other mods he had done, but to my understanding that wasn't his first rodeo. It was Saddlesore.

Ride one and you will own one. There is a reason Victory picked this tag line - they listened to their customers. With that said, don't listen to some old guy with long arthritic legs (varider), and get on one for a test ride.

Technically the Vision has fewer body panels then a Goldwing, hence there are fewer joints. Plus the long distance runners here (100k+) haven't had any failures, rattles, but no failures. I dropped mine on a bollard (tip overs don't work well under those conditions), it punched a 6" hole in the side panel and support, but it was rock solid. So I was able to ride it for a week or 2 until I got it fixed, and even with the damage it didn't rattle. Plus the ABS panels were thick enough to allow me to do a DIY fiberglass repair that is now 3 years old and holding strong. The trunk is a different story, and there are cheap solutions posted here to fix that.

I agree with jeffmack about the convertible civic. Always felt like I was one power window away from the same civic. I have a car, and it's boring to drive just like I felt on the Goldwing. The issue for me is character. The Vision has it and like many of the Big 4 offerings, the Goldwing doesn't. Then there is the added bonus of power, handling, comfort and if you like attention, you'll get it. I had Harleys for many years. They have character, but at a price, with constant maintenance, no power, inferior handling and extremely expensive. The thing about people and their motorcycles is the way they feel on the bike dictates their preference. I feel great on my Vision. So, if it makes you happy buy it and ride it.

I've ridden GWs since 1978. About 18 months ago I took a Vision for a ride and bought it. I kept my GW. I put floor boards on my GW which gave me a bit more foot room and changed the leg position a bit for the better. It's still not as comfortable as the Vision where I have room to stretch out. More power and pickup with the GW. As far as handling and putting it thru the curves I'd give the Vision a slight advantage. However with the GW and the floorboards I drag a lot sooner. The GW will hold a lot more stuff for traveling. The Vision's saddle bags are sad.
Initially the wife said she preferred the GW but after a few months she changed her mind. Now when we go for a ride she wants to take the Vision instead of the GW. She likes the seat cushion and position better on the Vision.
I can't say I like one better than the other. They're different rides.
The one thing about the GW is there are a ton of them out there with over 200,000 miles on them still going strong and never had a wrench put to them. I hope my Vision can do the same.

My first Wing was a 77. I had several until 2001 when I sold my 1500 on a whim then went down to buy an `1800. To my surprise I could not ride the thing. My knees were against the fairing lowers. Instead I bought a Yamaha Venture which I kept till 08. I sold it to buy a first year Vision. I'm now on my second Vision a 12. Last fall, I rode to Southern Ohio and had to come home quickly. I rode straight thru, 980 miles and 14 hours, got up the next morning and spent 9 hours driving the tour bus. The Vision was more comfortable than the bus....

Same here. It's why I went from a 1500 to 1800 and then back to a 1500. I didn't have the knee room with the 1800. No worries at all with the Vision. I'm able to stretch out a lot more than with the 1500.
Also agree with being able to do more long distance with the Vision than the GW. After a 400 mile day on a GW I'm ready to get off. With the Vision it's just keep racking up the miles.

The Vision is the most comfortable, the Gold wing does not have the Visions windshield, the Vision has soul, the Goldwing does not have soul, the Vision has somewhere for you to put your feet, you have to buy somewhere to put your feet on a gold wing. Should the Goldwing ever get an electric windshield, a v-twin engine and some floorboards . I will buy one.
