I have had my eye on a J&S jack for a couple of years. I tried the Torin jack from Northern Tool when I first got a motorcycle back in 2008, raised it once and took it back. Just wasn't stable enough for me. I built a lift table but it has some disadvantages over a jack. It takes up a lot of space in my garage and scares the crap out of my wife every time I put a bike on it. (Short period where the feet don't touch the ground) You also cannot work on the wheels real easy with a table.

The table lift is in the background on the right.

So what's the verdict on the new lift? You happy with it?

Been using the $99 Sears red lift since I got the Vision in 2011, and while I haven't had a problem, it's definitely not the most stable thing!

Once I figured out where to put the shim, the lift became very stabile. It seems to be more stable 18" in the air than just off the ground. Been to cold to work in my garage to give it a full evaluation.

I have a Rocket III and was not happy about the difficulty of lifting that monster with my Sears yellow/silver aluminum motorcycle jack; from the lack of good contact points underneath it. But with a little GI Engineering and Yankee Ingenuity; I came up with a solution.

Now for the Vision; the bottom of the crankcase is beveled upwards slightly from center line; shims would be a "must" if you wanted to lift it in a stable, absolutely vertical fashion. I opted instead; for the skid plate which negated the need for shims.

I am though (as well as I bet others) interested in what you came up with; for shims...?

I also use the J&S Jack on my vision. Love it. The shims are included from J&S when you buy the jack.

The shim is a 3/8" poly plate about 2" x 3" in size. It works for all cross bikes too. I think I will tape it in place to keep track of it.
