Hello again everybody!

I have been really busy for the last year and finally am taking a break from work. Last month I worked from 3 to 17 hours every day except July the 5th. I have a few more weeks of that coming up and the rest of the year is looking much better.

Yes, I am OK and still riding my 2008 Vision. I just do not ride the Vision as much as I want too.

I am riding to work on a different kinda bike. One with pedals. I rode the Mountain Bike (a Diamondback 29'er) three times this week (a total of 15 times last month) and I took Friday off so the Vision only made one trip to work on Wednesday.

On Thursday I rode 7.5 miles home in 103 degree heat....on a bike with pedals. Yep, I am crazy. I started riding the bicycle to work almost a year ago...so I got used to the heat over time. I ride most of the way through a park and on side walks.

But on the up side I have lost almost 30 pounds.

My Vision is running fine but I think it is time for front bearings.

Ride Safe

Welcome Back, Paul !!!

Glad to see you agree with me about enjoying life - and riding safe. We only have ONE disagreement - pedals.

I have been saying to ANYONE who discusses that in the last 35 years - "I don't trust ANY two wheeler under 500cc".

Gorgeous Wife and I use our SPCSHP to get to some of the most beautiful spots on this planet - then we WALK !!!

I have only lost 18 pounds in my 69th year - but keeping at it !

We are all looking forward to your wisdom and wealth of tips that we have been missing! Good Health and tell us about bearing ...

Glad to see you back and doing well. Congrats on the weight loss, I would think it makes the time on the Vision more enjoyable.

All hail, radio teacher! All hail! Man good to hear from you. I support the pedals and the weight loss. It is surprising how much we feel better. Congratulations
Did you have to shave the beard for some of the weight?

Glad to see you posting again Paul! Biking is terrific. When you're ready for the ultimate in pedal biking... go for this:

www.streetstrider.com

I just purchased one and it kicks my ass each time I use it. Serious cardiovascular workout and weight loss.

Don,

I am betting that Yukiyo can out walk/hike you, me and my wife. This morning my engine weighed in at 239 pounds....what is that in cubic centimeters?

kris1956,

I have had to adjust the backrest. Either my back is losing fat or my arms are getting shorter.

I am still riding as a Motorcycle Marshall for a few charities that fund raise with bicycles.

I supported a practice run made up of mostly co-workers on pedal bikes two weeks ago. I ride along behind the group with four Amber LED's triple blinking on my Vision. Most drivers get the false impression that I am a police officer and take it easy around the bicyclist. When approaching an intersection I will ride ahead of the group so no one drives stupid and hits one of my riders. (I do the standard pre-ride talk and tell the cyclist that I am not a cop and cannot stop traffic. They are responsible for their own safety.)

Most cars take extra care because someone is watching them who could be a cop.

On that ride, one truck clipped the elbow of my CIO and drove off....when I was at the head of the pack. I did not know what happened till the truck was long gone. The boss was OK but it shook him up as anyone could understand. I really enjoy these rides because I get to show off my Vision and its slow speed agility.

Senor chicken,

My beard is in its short summer length for now. It will grow again to Santa length in November and December.

willtill,

Just looking at that Cardio ass-kicker raised my heart rate.

I am thinking that these Zombieland rules might apply to riding that contraption from www.streetstrider.com or my Mountain Bike.

1. Cardio
7. Travel Light
13. Shake it Off (I fell five times in three days after switching to lock-in pedals) (And I have had one concussion)
14. Always carry a change of underwear (I take a shower at work and my co-workers like it that way.)
18. Limber Up
20. It's a marathon, not a sprint, unless it's a sprint, then sprint (This is easier on a Vision)
22. When in doubt know your way out (This comes in handy your trail runs through a field of Cactus)
28. Double-Knot your Shoes (My riding shoes have latches)
32. Enjoy the little things (Like the sunrise, deer, birds singing the full Camelback)
33. Swiss army Knife (What is a ride without tools.)

XRsteve,

I still have more to go. I would like to drop another 30 to 35. I had to buy new pants today....the old ones just fall off. That is hard to explain to the wife....."No really honey....my pants just fell off!"

varyder,

Thanks for checking in on me via email.

I see by you tag line you are still cranking out the miles. Mine have slowed way down. I am at 35,000. But I did ride 1700 miles on my pedal bike in the past year. I track my rides with MapMyRide on the iPhone. When I start a ride it tells my wife I am leaving...and she can track me live until I get home and I stop the track. As I tell her, "When I stop moving off road in the park for 15 minutes and I do not answer the phone, send for help and tell them where the body is."

MapMyRide will also track when riding a motorcycle. But it is a battery killer.

Ride Safe on and all!

P.S. I need to make a video on my LED strobe lights....they kick but.

OK, Paul. 500cc - that's CUBIC CENTIMETRES (not GRAMS) !!! I don't ride NO bike that ain't got two or more cylinders displacing at least 40 CUBIC INCHES. Preferably 1800cc like my VV.

And yes, Yuki could whoop most of our folks in a hike - easily. She has recently done MARITHONS !

Go Paul Go!

Two and a half years of gimping around on this hip has got me chompin at the bit to get back in shape!  I'll be 56 next May and I told my wife "Wait until my 57th birthday.  One year retired with a normal sleep schedule (for the first time in my life) and two good legs to move on, you will not believe what I will look like in less than two years."

I can't wait.

Road trip back to Tejas is high on my retirement list!  Book it!
