Posts: 447 Cleveland, GA | I just got my 08 bike out of the shop from where fourth gear just went AWOL after about 75,000 miles. KevinX was right. It was a problem with the engagement dogs. Four out of six were sheared off. Fortunately, they all fell way down in the pan and didn't jack up the rest of the tranny. I have no idea what would have caused them to fail. I don't get on it hard; I don't race; I don't stay in fourth gear a lot except when riding mountain roads. On the bright side, though, I have a new - and updated - tranny now. Much less first gear clunk. On the other hand - a new tranny is freaking expensive! The labor charges for having to pull the engine and split the casing. 20+ hours. Ouch.

Posts: 178 LaGrange, GA | How expensive are we talking, if you don't mind answering that question? If you don't want to end up in discussions about the labor hours/rate at last the parts cost would be nice.
Thanks. |

Posts: 178 LaGrange, GA | Thanks. Both are pretty dang high, but in the grand scheme of things...75k out of a bike and it needs under $3500 worth of loving -- not too bad if you ask me. Glad you got it fixed up. |
