I just came across an awesome, FREE, trip planner for Garmin GPS's. Its called base camp. There are just too many rich features to go into them in this post. This app just blows away anything I've seen. Take a few minutes and go through the brief videos that describes features and how to use. It will be time well spent. One of the really cool features is you can share your maps/adventures with others. One other feature that is really cool, if your camera has geotracking capabilities you can import those into your computer and device and the pictures become part of the route that can be viewed for review and others.

Hope you all find this helpful.

I agree, Base Camp is major improvement over the old MapSource. And the price is certainly right. $0

also if you have a Garmin that accepts routes from Mapquest - you can plan your route in Mapquest and then upload the route to your Garmin from Mapquest.
