Posts: 691 Manchester, CT | This weekend I was in VT and had the opportunity to do a 400+ mile road trip. It included TORRENTIAL, heavy to moderate rainstorms, lightning and sunshine.
Findings:
OEM vs Jurock
Wind deflection
Improvement over OEM
Moderate to Heavy rain
Jurock performed on par to better deflection capabilities over the OEM
Torrential Rain
The rain moved up the flip which a the top the rain blew directly back to my helmet shield. I don't think any windshield would protect you from the conditions I drove through. The winds were gusting over 40mph.
Note: Although I waxed and polished the windshield the rain failed to bead up. I am going to try rainex on it. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Hope this helps.

| NEVER NEVER use Rainex on your windshield it will turn it to a forge looking finish.
I saw the same thing this week end rain runs up to top of wind shield and then straight back into face. Just part of riding I guess |

Does anyone have a solution for getting rain to bead up on a windshield similar to what rainex does for glass?

| I have a Ness flip and I get the same results with it, I use a spray detail wax and the rain beads well and so far no discoloration. |

| Regular old "Pledge" works wonders on windshields..Don't knock it till you've tried it....As said above..NEVER use Rainex...It will destroy your shield as well as the wiperblades on a car..I know from experience...The stuff is pure "CRAP"... |

It does work. So does the original formula Honda polish, if you can find it. Plexus plastic windshield cleaner/polish was originally developed for Lexan aircraft windshields and works just as well on motorcycles.

Posts: 154 Danbury, Connecticut | I found a package of pledge wipes in a resealable foil pouch. I keep them under my trunk mat just in case rain pops up while I'm out. Works pretty well-not as good as rainex on glass, but rainex on plastic is a no-no. |

Posts: 691 Manchester, CT | Thanks guys! I came across a number of postings on various forums that also recommend using pledge. SteveS, I really like the idea of having the wipes on board.
Regarding RainX..you guys are spot on! Thanks for the heads up before I ruined my shield. I did read that RainX is suppose to have a non petroleum based product. It is suppose to be available in marine product vendor's stores. Not sure how true this is because I haven't been able to find anything about this product on the web. |

Posts: 691 Manchester, CT | I asked Jurock what they recommended. The following is there response. I am going to try and track down the RainX Marine product. I will let you know what I find.
Dear Tom,
We like to recommend is the Plexus Spray plastic cleaner, protectant and polisher. It does a great job at keeping your windshield clean, clear and protects it from outside elements. It costs around $20.00 for one can and we believe it is well worth it. You can find it online and check all of their reviews as well. If you would like to use something like Rain X, there is a Rain X Marine version. That one will be safe to use on the Plexiglas windshield. We also suggest Meguiar's PlastX Clear Plastic Cleaner and Polish. We also use that product on our windshields. Before you apply anything to the windshield, be sure to check the product is ammonia-free and safe on Plexiglas/Acrylic. If you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know. You can also contact us directly at 909-634-8548. Thank you for your time and for giving us the opportunity tobe of service to you.
Have a wonderful day!
Sincerely,
Sonia Torres

Posts: 691 Manchester, CT | I just got off the phone with Rain X tech support. They DO NOT offer a product that can be used on plexi. I asked them for a recommendation and they said Raincoat. I will take a look at it. If it looks good on paper I will give it a try and report back. |

Just for grins and giggles, try bumping your shield down just over that hump it settles into while in the full up position. You will see the deflection of the water change. I was in some heavy stuff too and maybe it was the wind, maybe my mind playing tricks on me but that seemed to help push it to the side and not into my face as it beeded up on my 15" Jurock flip.
Safe riding,
Tim |

| Stop and think when your going down the hwy in the rain where does it go. I don't care what you polish it with.
In your face. It has no place to go when it gets to the top of the shield but in your face. Water is to heavy to fly over you

Posts: 691 Manchester, CT | actually...there are a number of variables that will dictate the actual flow over the windshield. I am curious if Jurock has done any CFD modeling. I am going to ask. |

| My Ness will direct the rain over my head if I raise the windshield about half way. Part of the reason I changed. |

Posts: 164 Quad Cities, IL | I know I will get yelled at for this...but here it goes. I DO use Rain-X.
I have used it for the 3+ years I have owned by Vision. I use it on the stock winshield. No hazing, cracking, crazing color changes, etc. It does an excellent job of beading the rain and letting it glide off the windshield. I also used it on the National Switchblade windshield which was on my Suzi Blvd for 5+ years. Never any issues there either. In fact, I use it on my full face helmet visors too...this is where it really helps! IMO and experience it works great. I have never had a visor or windshield go bad.
I have been riding in rain all week, feels like all spring. And applied a fresh coat just a few days ago before setting out for a sure couple days of riding in the rain. First I clean the surface well. Then I apply the Rain-X to a soft cloth, then apply it to the windshied or visor. I let it sit for 2-3 minutes then wipe it with a clean cloth. I NEVER spray it directly on the windshield, maybe that matters, but I don't think so.
Just thought I would share my experience. I will keep on using it, whether anyone else decides to is up to each of you.
Take care... |

If you have prescription glasses with an anti-stratch/anti-glare coating (90% are ordered that way) do NOT use any anti-fog cleaner. It will take the anti-scratch/anti-glare coating off. I got my current glasses withOUT the anti-coatings so I could use anti-fog cleaner. I wish I gone with the more traditional coatings as the nighttime glare gets annoying and with my new(er) helmet, I don't need the anti-fog cleaner. |
