Bought a '08 Vision used last September with 5500 miles on it. I ride a lot for my work and I now have 9300 on it in less than a year. We finally got away on our first trip and put 1300 of those miles on in 3.5 days. We live right on 81 so we rode south all the way through VA the first day. Off and on rain, but we got 400 miles in. Second day we made it down to the Dragon and did the run, gotta say, my stomach was in knots when I finished the first time through. The Vision handles so well, but still, less than a year of riding on it and being 2up I was a bit nervous, needless to say the second time through was much better. The trip home was great, sunny but chilly and windy through most of VA.

I have a couple of questions for you guys who have been riding Vision's a while. First is gas mileage. I averaged just about 40mpg for the trip. I was riding between 70 and 80 on the highway. I'm used to my Honda Magna which always got around 50mpg. Is the 40mpg pretty standard for the Vision?

Second is the rear suspension. The entire ride was very comfortable except when there was a significant seam usually at bridges. There were times that I felt we 'hit' the seam very hard. Would it be that my shock needs more pressure? Between the two of us I'd say we have a combined weight at approximately 325. The bike did not come with a guage and pump so I'll have to look for one of those.

Overall, our first trip was a great experience. As expected, we saw only one other Vision, it was leaving the Dragon as we arrived. Too bad that so many people are so concerned with fitting in that they overlook the fantastic comfort, ride and performance of the Vision. We LOVE our Vision!

I get about 40 mpg and I ride mostly solo. I find the bike to be sensitive to adjustment on the rear shock. So if you don't know what you are running I would start with that. I bought the pump from Victory but it looks very similar to many bicycle pumps, which sell for far less.

40 mpg is pretty reasonable for two up at speed. It sounds like you're too low on rear shock pressure. There is a yellow label in the left bag with specs based on total load weight. You can find suspension pump sources by searching the forum. There was a recent discussion covering just that.

I've averaged 40.5 MPG over slightly more than 50,000 miles. (Excel spreadsheet)
Worst was 33, best was 46.
I'm 300 pounds, so I keep it set at plus 60 PSI all the time to cover all circumstances.

The air volume inside the rear shock is very small, so do not use compressed air at gas stations to fill it.
You'll blow the seals. (insert joke)
Only use a hand pump which will also help in keeping out moisture.

When I first got my Vision, the rear shock slowly lost air pressure over time and miles ridden.
It doesn't lose any pressure anymore.

My wife and I were riding a Vision on the Dragon yesterday. I also get 40-43 MPG. What a perfect day yesterday! We did Cherohala Skyway also. It was 84 at the bottom and 69 at the top. It felt great!

40 MPG is pretty common.
For 2-up travelling with luggage, I'm running 60 lbs plus in the rear shock.
Over this weekend, we rode the Skyway twice, the Snake twice, the Rattler once and the Dragon once (among other roads).
I could not drag a floorboard at that air pressure!

Sweet picture! That's a beautiful overlook isn't it? We will definitely be making the trip back down there again. Glad you had a nice day. It was sunny when we went but cool. Gotta love the roads in the Smokies!

I wish we had more time, had to cut vacation short in order to be back to PA for a funeral....such is the life of a pastor....We definitely are heading back down there again soon to do more riding, it's great down there.

I rode to Wilmington and back last week and averaged just under 46mpg. Some interstate and then US421.
