I found a refurbished Garmin 2720 (same one Victory uses) for $179.99 @
http://www.gpsonsale.com/garmin/products/streetpilot2720.htm and then picked up the Vision GPS mount for $75 at http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VICTORY-PS-Mount-Victory-Vision-2875...

This gives you the GPS and the mount for $300 vs. $999 at Victory. If you wanted XM and MP3 capability you could use the Garmin 2820.

Don't shy away from the factory refurbished units. I've had two of them over the years and they both worked great.

So if you've wanted a GPS but didn't want to spend $999 you might want to check this out.

I bought my 2720 on eBay. It came with all the car mount stuff, home power cord, CD, etc. It works great, and only cost ~$145. Both it and the 2820s are good units, although some like the Zumos better. The 2720, whether a refurb or an eBay purchase, sure gives you some serious bang for the buck!

Just picked up a refurb 2720 at Consumer Depot for $130.

I was going to wait and get the 2820, but for $400 less I can live without bluetooth.

I agree with you breaker...if you don't have a strong need for the bluetooth, the 2720 provides a lot of bang for the buck.

Is the 2720 even waterproof? The ones I've been looking at don't say anything about being waterproof or for motorcycles like the 2820's and the zumo's.

I really want the zumo 550 but thought I might get one of the 2720's for the time being while I wait for the price to drop some more on the zumo, but I don't think I want something thats gona go belly up the first rain storm I get into.

The Zumo is built for motorcycles and is waterproof. Garmin says the 2720 and 2820 are as well. I have a couple friends with the Zumo and they love it, but I am with you - not sure I'd spend the dough. On my old Ultra Classic, HD wanted about $1000 for what was essentially a Garmin Quest. I bought one for $200 and added the power unit and dock from Harley for another $200. Pretty big savings.

I was wondering if I could put my Sanyo unit on there somehow with perhaps a RAM mount. Anyone ever try to hook up anything to power and sound on the Vision?

The 2720 is the stock GPS on the Visions from the factory. So yes, it's waterproof and intended for the bike.

And yeah, when the price gets reasonable I'll pick up a 2820, or a Zumo. Both are nice units.

by Spock, he is wiring a Zumo 550 but gives the harness location and wiring colors, and like he says in the post, it should work for any brand/model of GPS

Did you actually get this, or just place the order? just wondering because that price is almost to good to be true, and I have done some reading on Consumer Depot - AKA
Overstock Dealz, Auction Depot, Bargain Depot, Consumer Depot, Factory Dealz, Return Dealz, Surplus Dealz, auctiondepot99, auctiondepottn01, bargaindepot04, bargaindepot05, factorydealz, returndealz04, software-universe, surplusdealz04, surplusdealz05, swdiscounters, techgraveyard, ubid-it and youbid2003.

Including some Cival law suits with the state of Tennessee filing an injunction against Consumer Depot LLC and Martin Randolph Fike (apparently the owner) scheduled to go to court on the 15th of September of 08.

RotnRat,

I have it in hand now. Arrived a day earlier than they estimated.

Everything checks out, the unit functions like a charm. I don't have it on the bike yet, but I put it in my truck and drove around changing maps, making it recalculate routes, etc.

I've also downloaded the latest software from Garmin an updated to the 7.2 version.

It actually is in good physical shape. A couple of scuffs here and there, but the screen in clear and responsive to touch. I'm happy with the purchase.

But, as we know in the onlince commerce world, your mileage may vary.

OK I finally got 1, bid on ebay and won the 2720 for 63.88, I was a little nervous about the sale afterwards because when I tried to pay they wanted to charge me sales tax and when I inquired about it they told me they were a Bestbuy company with a presence in all 48 continental states. Well after reading some of the scam tactics this company pulls and knowing that Bestbuy also runs scams on their in house credit cards, I tossed the idea of retracting my bid around for 4 days but finally took the plunge and paid for it. I am glad I did, for a total of $88.00 including tax and shipping I got what appears to be a never been used 2720. There are no scratches or wear marks on the unit, and when I first tuned it on I had to go through the initial set-up.

Well now for some questions; The biggest downfall to this purchase is that all that came with this unit is the face plate cover the 12 volt with speaker adapter and the unit itself. Not having the vehicle mount isn't a big problem because I can get the Ram mount with the 5" arm so I can mount my XM Roady in front/below it. http://mountinginnovations.com/RAM%20Products/Bundles/HOLGA9U/RAM-B...

The wiring is what I am wondering about, is there a special harness that I can use to plug this directly into the GPS harness of the bike? If so, is this something that comes with the GPS or something I can get from polaris or elsewhere?

I can always direct wire it cutting and using the 12 volt speaker adapter but I do plan on getting the Zumo in the future, and when I do I will put this in the wifes car, so I will want that plug for then.

I don't think these are the original splash screens but they should work and add a little "Victory flavour" at the power-up stage.

I opted for the Vision Riders splash screen availalbe on the the Downloads section of this site.

The harness comes with the Victory mount.

So...... I guess that means that I will be splicing the harness that came with the GPS because I can't see paying $75 (or whatever the victory mount costs) for an aluminum block that I cant use because I don't have the car mount bracket that the GPS clips in anyhow, just to get the wiring harness. Oh well I will just cut or de-solder it from inside the speaker housing in such a way that I can put it back together once i get a zumo. That way my wife can use the 2720 in the car.

I just bought a 2720 on Ebay today & ordered the mount from Victory. Thanks for the info guys. May need help when it comes to downloading the Victory Motorcycle logo to my GPS screen.Oh & when I spoke to my dealer today he wants to know how it works as he may buy some 2720's so he can cut the costs on installing the GPS units. He figures he'll sell more if they're cheaper.

I just installed my Garmin 2720. I bought the mount from my Victory dealer which is Best Line Powersports in State College,Pa. The GPS is awesome. I mounted it myself in 1/2 an hour. My dealer left me look at their demo bike which has the GPS to get an idea on how it should look completed. They were very helpful. Thanks to the info I got on here I saved a lot of cash by buying the GPS that's identical to Victory's model. Thanks for all the help guys!!!

If anyone knows a source for the connectors and pins that Victory uses in the wiring harness it would be very easy to adapt other GPS units to the bike. I have looked at the wiring diagrams in the manual and all that is really needed is the connector for the GPS to the audio system.
