| when I rode off to work this morning, I thot my feet were a tad flatter on pavement. didnt think to much about it. when I left work, there was a definite difference. I checked air in shock. ok, no leaks. I stopped at dealer and pulled off seat. the bolt in upper shock link was sheared, and rod eye was damaged. this was a lowering link installed by this same dealer, about a year ago. could this be defective product or workmanship? or just one of those things? I left bike to be repaired and hoping for the best..... |

| the bolt was sheared off. I shortened my original link by one inch and they installed it at 1 hour labor. what can ya say....glad I was close to home. |

I noticed when I had my lowered link on there that the bolt head would hit the frame at the edge of the opening. Had to take a dremel and clearance out the area a little bit to let the head of the bolt actually come through the opening |

Posts: 135 Chesterfield, VA | +1 I lowered mine 2 inches and also had to dremel out the aluminum frame opening just above the upper link bolt to provide clearance. Without doing this, the upper link bolt and nut will impact the frame when the shock compresses. Not sure if you have the same issue with a 1 inch lowering link, but it's worth checking. |

Posts: 135 Chesterfield, VA | I installed the HMD link, and I posted incorrectly above. The issue with the bolt clearance is the upper shock link, not the fixed link. Still worth checking to make sure you have sufficient clearance. |

| I removed my seat to check bolt clearance in link and the shock. I had to dremel frame to make clearance for upper shock bolt. the link I installed was shortened 1". My original lowering link was 7/8'. didn't know that. |

I am a only 5'8" and my feet are FLAT on the ground with my Vision. Many of my prior bikes I could only do "tip-toe" with one foot - but I NEVER considered messing with the bike to change things. The engineering that goes into the final design is NOT something that I would change. I would buy a different machine if I didn't like the feeling - and not consider myself a better engineer than the builder.
This story makes me feel that my feeling for 53 years of 'non-tinkering' is/was the best way to go ...
Be careful with your tinkering - PLEEEZE !!!!
