After many years I am now bike-less. Made the decision to sell last fall and now the garage has a much different look and I've hung up my helmet most likely for good. The new owner is on the way back to Florida with a big smile on his face. The Vision made my many road trips a joy and never gave me any problems over the 3 years I owned it. I already miss it!

Sorry to hear you won't be riding anymore. Time for a convertible.

Sorry to hear it man, but I understand. Could there be a trike in your future?

I'll probably be facing that decision in the near future myself, arthritus in my back and knees gets worse all the time and I'm begining to doubt my abilities to hold up an 850 lb. bike and I know I couldn't get it back on it's wheels by myself anymore.
Sucks to ride all your life always striving for that next, better ride and when you finally get there you're too frail to enjoy it.
Sorry about your loss of freedom, but sounds like it found a good home in a warm climate and will provide many years of happy rides for it's new 'daddy'.

A sad day Biscuit. Maybe some day I will face that dilemma but today I am a mere 65 years old and intend to visit my dad in Florida this summer. He is 91 so old age tends to hold off a bit in my family. Have you considered switching to one of those reverse 3 wheel bikes so that you need never try to pick one up yourself? At least you would get a bit of wind in your hair and could enjoy a few more years of riding before you give it up.

Biscuit,

I hope I never type a similar message. A sad day for each of us as another rider retires and reminds us of our possible future. Strange thing..... The older I get, the more I hear these stories. Then again, the older I get the more I find Grandma looking sexy, As a grand-Pa I say that respectfully! LOL

God bless you and yours,
Jim

Sorry to hear that, I don't know you but I feel that you will really miss riding just like we all will when we finally hang up our spurs so to speak. It reminds us that we are all mortal and can't keep doing everything we love as the years go by..................

I echo everyone else's remarks Biscuit. At least you are one of the masses now that knows of the thrill; enjoyment and contentment of being on 2 wheels. Getting a trike is always an option ...if you ever get a hankering again.

+1. Many of my friends comment it's too hold or too cold. These same friends spend in excess of 30k on a bike that sits 300 days a year.

Thanks for all the thoughts guys it means a lot. Going on 69 with bad knees and grand kids wanting to see me more it made the decision easier. After have ridden in 40 states I didn't need to prove anything to myself or others. The wife hated it when I would take week long trips or more to far away places and while she was glad I sold the bike she and I know I'll miss it. As far as something other than two wheels in my opinion motorcycle shouldn't be used in the same sentence, it's just not for me. Rode a Goldwing trike once to make up my mind on that. I have no regret with the decision and until the mind goes there are a lot of memories and of course pictures. Pleas ride safe everybody, it's really hard to do in this day and time.

Sounds like you've had a great run with no regrets Biscuit.  I've enjoyed your perspective and comments over the years here.  I think you are moving on at the perfect time.  Nice to see the bike go to a grateful new owner.

Hope I can ride until I'm 69!

At 73, I too will one day face the same decision..NO Trike for me as I have ridden them and do not like the feel...So far my health allows me to ride the Vision and one day I may trade it for a lighter/smaller bike...I also have 15 Grandchildren and try to spend as much time as I can with them, but so far, my riding time has not interfered with this issue...When the time comes to not ride anymore, and I can still stand up, I will probably buy a Mustang GT......

at least you made the decision. There is one guy on here that would like to legislate you off your bike at a predetermined age. As for my wife and trips she will be with me , as for future grandkids, I will spend lots of time with them and still take trips. I don't believe I have to do one or the other to be a good future grand parent but I respect your decision. I understand also that people have health issues that play into these decisions. I'm big on fitness and nutrition to help maximize my riding years

Biscuit,

We all have to make decisions and your's are for the right reasons. Love and guide those grandchildren and leave the rest of the riding to us, I for one will ride hard in respect of your decision. Carry on......

Grand kids, even great grand kids are a normal part of life, but so is riding. When/if I get to the point I can no longer hold up a Vision, that is what smaller bikes and even scooters are for. I am still only 65 years young and the Vision is no challenge for me. I expect to ride to my dad's place and visit with him this summer as one of my excursions. He is actually getting too old and feeble to hold up my bike but at 91 he is still going strong. Around 80 he remarried after my mother had died. His new wife is close to him in age and also going strong.

I am but 61 and I ride when ever I can. the hard thing for me is when my wife of 31 years can no longer ride she loved it as much as I did we have traveled most of the 48 states together in our riding career. I still, have the bike and ride any chance I get but I have to face the fact that she will probably never ride again and it makes her sad. She has bad legs cannot walk and bad lungs so she can not go without Oxygen. Appreciate the time you have and enjoy the ride never know when it will be the last one. Archie

Sorry you had to come to that decision, Biscuit.

Is odd, but I accept death as a part of life, and feel I am as ready for it as I can be. But the thought of not being able to ride is terribly depressing!

Calgary, AB,

Biscuit, nothing wrong with your decision in my opinion. At 62+, I hope I'm still riding up to 69, but bottom line is one never really knows what the future brings.

It's a personal decision, impacted by your health, spouse's health, where you live weatherwise AND what other interests a person has to entertain himself.

Glad you enjoyed you time on her, and found a good home. I bought my /08 from an older fella in a similar situation. He'd only done about 3500 miles in 3+ years and very little the last year, then made the decision. I sure appreciated that he wanted to sell.

Enjou your future endeavors.

Even though I won't be riding anymore my other passion is making photographs and of course I always took my camera along on trips. Here are a few, only a few and hope you enjoy them. Hit the slideshow button, it makes them bigger for the old farts.

I don't think that will keep us from meeting for lunch sometime. There's nothing wrong in making a decision to go out on top. I know you've got a lot of great memories.
