I have given up on the idea of converting my 08' to ABS. Instead I am looking for a donor 12' or '13 to move everything over to. However, I can't get a straight answer from the dealership if there were any additional changes to the 13'. I an get a new 12' for $2k less. Since I am really only keeping the drivetrain, were there any other differences that make the 13' worth $2k more? As it sits, $18k is quite an expensive ABS system install. I hope it is worth it. I was told by the dealership that the only real change from 08' to 13' was the transmission. I know that I have read others with little subtle differences like the radio and leaving removing the gas pistons off the side bags, etc. I am really debating this big undertaking just for ABS.

Has anyone switched to Galfer brakes or a different braking system? Curious if that might be a better way to go. I just don't want another close call like last weekend. It was not fun sliding sideways on 1000lb bike when the back tire locked up before the front.

I think the lights are not the same. HID vs non HID. I know on the 11 HID was a standard and in 12 or 13 they started making them an option. As far as a model year goes, I would buy the one I liked the best as far as color. The 13 should have the new badges on it would be the only difference. My dealer actually did a dealer search when I bought my 2011 Pearl white on. You might be able to find a new 11 in the box somewhere yet.

I was talking to marcparnes and he said that Victory made changes to the transmission gears (cut/shape) which further refines the transmission.

Whoever gives you the best price on what you want. I paid $18,753 out the door tax included for my '13..............( That included the $1000 off Military discount )

The only thing I know that they updated for sure on the '13 compared to the '12 is the transmission like Tom said. They updated all the gears plus the star wheel. They initially upgraded the trans in '11 and made an ad campaign out of it and then did it again in '13 and kept it quiet. The '13 really shifts great. As for ABS, I made the same decision when I went to an '11 from a '10 for the same reason; a locked up rear wheel. ABS can really come in handy when you have to make a fast stop particularly on a wet surface with a 1/2 ton of momentum pushing you along.

The '13 does shift better than my '08, thats for sure and neutral is a breeze.

Thanks. You just saved me a big headache. I just checked with the dealer that I was going to get this from and they told me that both of their bikes do not have HID's. I don't want to give up my HID light. Looks like I am back to the drawing board.

Unless your really bent on ABS brakes, which I am not, with all the additions you have on your 08 I would keep it for now and not worry about ABS...Maybe next year or so the Vision will change enough to make you want to up-grade and spend the $$...JMHO...I realize your last incident "spooked" you somewhat, but enough to force you to spend a lot of extra bucks just for brakes???

I upgraded / traded-in my 2008 for a 2011 for the same reason you mentioned. You could always look around for a good used 2011 too.

I have heard & read that you can get the factory HID installed at the dealer for $500. I am sure you could negotiate that into the 2012.

Have you looked into the TCB units that fit in where the banjo bolts are? Haven't seen them in a while, but it's a thought. I think there were about $79 a piece.

I have wanted to try them, but had forgotten about them. Couldn't find the TCB units online, but CruiserCustomizing.com has the Bagger Werx versions and they are actually cheaper. They have them listed for the Victory. They are $59.95. Haven't seen them used on any Victorys, but I do know of a couple of sportbike guys that swear by them. The part number is Bagger-PSS-103.
