Fellow Riders,

I know there are posts regarding Motorcycle lists but they are pretty dated. I've been doing some research. I found the video that compares the Pitbull and the J & S Motorcycle Lift.

I am looking for recommendations for what other jacks folks might be using. The lifts that come in around $100 that I've see don't appear to be well constructed and have caused problems.

All input is greatly appreciated!

I have the Sear aluminum motorcycle lift (silver/yellow). Lightweight and it easily lifts my Vision (since I installed the bash/skid plate) as well as my Rocket and my DR650. I would like to get that Harbor Freight table lift but I just don't have enough vertical overhead in the three large sheds that I keep all of my bikes in. Someday....

With the bash/skid plate its more stable. I use a steel Sears motorcycle jack that works okay. I had the harbor freight aluminum motorcycle jack and it was way unstable gave it to my friend for his smaller bike and the steel harbor freight jack was okay lifting but when lowering the bike it was more like dropping the bike I returned that asap.

+1 on the harbor freight jack dropping the bike too fast when lowering it. You can't feather it when lowering the bike and I've nearly dumped the bike a couple of times because of it.

Regarding the harbor freight table lift, I've got one of those also. It's the 1,000# lift and I'm not impressed at all. It's made for a Sporty type bike rather than our 800# Visions. You don't dare trust the front wheel clamp or the tie down hooks. I had to modify the hook locations and mounted my automatic wheel chock on it and even then the table is really flimsy in the air. If all you are doing is changing oil, it's ok, but I pulled the motor out of my bike and trying to horse the exhaust pipes off had me thinking it was going to fall off the table a couple of times. If I had to do it over again, I would spend the extra money and get a good table lift.

That is one sweet chock. I may have to invest in one.

As for a jack, I tried a couple of different ones and just am not comfortable raising a 900 lb. bike on one. I bought a set of lift table plans off from http://www.afabonline.com/table_lift_plans.htm and built on myself. I work at a steel fabrication company in sales so I was able to buy scrap steel to build mine. I will say if you have the space, they make working on a bike much easier. I have an old office task chair that I use when working on the bike.

I've had the J&S lift for 4 years now. Very sturdy. I leave my bike up all winter long and use it for oil changes and bike cleaning during the summer. I'd highly recommend the J&S lift. Tell them it is for a Vision and they send along a spacer for the rear left side.

Banjodan you don't need a skid plate for the vision it does help though, I lowered my bike with hmd20 parts 1 inch front and back, the most important think is to get the tie down strap over the handlebars adjusted to the height you want to have the bike so when it is jack up the strap will be very snug and hold the bike on the sears jack I have I place the jack back on the motor as far as I can go the bike is a little back heavy on the jack. it work well for me I lowered the bike and will do most of the service myself. I also use it to clean the bike wheels jacked up and not so much bending over for me.

This one has done well for me. I have had it about 4 years now, without issue. It's not perfect, but fits under the Vision, and lifts pretty well.
