Some people think bikers are nuts, This seems scary to me. But I wished I could do it.

'Tis true. Personally, I think the Dragon is an overhyped piece of marketing success. There are better roads to ride in that part of the country. Lots of them.

At least, the roads in the Ozarks have elevation changes to go with the curves. The Dragon was a big disappointment for me. The other roads in that area are better IMHO, and there are some great ones.

If you can, ride the Dragon on a weekday, get your picture taken, and get your stickers to put on your bike, then get the heck out of there and go see some of the best scenery and roads in that part of the country. Mr. Joe Schmoe can fill you in on those.

I watch a lot of youtube bike videos and never saw the street race. That 200 mph street race was nuts. Can't imagine cathing air at that speed. Thanks for posting.
I have done the dragon several time. I love it, however I agree that there are far better, less stressful roads to ride. I tried to ride the lenth of the Blue Ridge Parkway in one day. Didn't quite make it. Started at mile 0 and made it to 400 in Ashville, NC. Can't wait to get back there either.

I did the Dragon once in each in direction last year. I thought it was great. I also enjoyed the other roads in the area. I plan on heading back this year with the whole family.

Dragon this Dragon that, Thats all people on the east coast talk about. Come out to the Pacific Northwest (including British Columbia) and experience the roads. With all the mountain ranges our roads twist and turn every where. Those coming out to the VMC Nat meet in Lewiston ID will get the chance to ride Lolo Pass.

I second that.

The experienced local riders that I talked to out in that part of the country just laughed when asked about riding the "Dragon". They've got good reason. Heck, even our itty-bitty Ozark Mountains have roads a lot more challenging than the "Dragon". The "fearsome" Dragon is a nice level road for a slow Sunday afternoon cruise.

I think the Dragon was first brought to the attention of every one when car an driver posted it as one of the top ten roads.
I think there is just as many cars as bikes on it. Corvetts Porsche and so on
There is a store there and when you walk in there is a ton of race leathers and spare body parts.
I guess I didn't say semi's use it to

Yes, I've been on it a few times. It's not much of a challenge. You can easily ride it with one hand, using the other to wave at the cameras.

The yellow Goldwing right in front of me (no, not yellowwolf) was dragging in these turns.

Granted we all can wave for the camaras but I still found the Dragon, as well as other local roads, quite entertaining.

I do not disagree with that statement. I was just disappointed with the Dragon after all the hype I had heard and read before going there. It's actually a very tame and easy to ride road. There are more challenging roads in that general area, and in the Ozarks, and definitely in the Rockies.

I only posted the pictures in response to someone's doubts that I had ever ridden the road.

I love the Smoky Mountains and may go back this summer.

No road is challenging if you set your own pace. I freely admit I'd hold everyone up if I was on the Dragon. Dragging my knees just doesn't hold the same thrill it used to. I don't want to have to work at riding. I just want to ride and enjoy the experience. I'm not out to impress anyone.

The scariest thing I found about the Dragon is all the damned traffic coming at you, half of whom are on or over the yellow line! That's a little disconcerting. Well, that and getting pulled over by a cop for doing 22mph over the limit.

When I went the cops were waiting at the beginning and end of the main section. They just seemed to be waiting for calls saying someone had gone off the road. But no speed trapping on the road. Bummer for you. Did you get a ticket?

After checking out and calling in my license, he dropped it 2mph to his 20mph limit for conversion to a warning and let me go with my souvenir from the Dragon! Otherwise, it's $175 for speeding, PLUS $50 for every MPH over the limit..... that could have cost me $1175 ! Needless to say I thanked him !
