Puddle Jumper
Posts: 16 San Antonio, TX | My cousin is getting ride fever while being stuck in the blistering cold of Minnesota's winter. I've talked him into coming down to San Antonio so we can go for a ride. What started out as throwing around ideas for some Hill Country riding has turned into a handful of guys meeting in San Antonio to head out for Vegas, meeting with a couple more guys (probably March 11th) and heading across Hoover Dam, down to Route 66, then to Grand Canyon National Park. We will be riding back through Amarillo and then down through the Hill Country into SA March 15th -- God willing.
Right now we don't have a real tight plan -- and likely won't be making one. We just want to get our faces out in the wind, and I can't think of a better time to ride through the desert. Other than (potentially) meeting our two riders in Vegas, our only other date & destination requirement is that we're back in SA on the 15th.
Anyone who would like to join us for this ride is welcome. As with most Victory riders, I don't give a damn what's written on your tank or what MC you're a part of. If you've been thinking about getting out and putting some miles on your machine, you're free to link up with us. There's no registration, no fees, nothing else to this. Among my friends, there are about people planning to do this ride. Two are coming from Minneapolis and two are coming from Alexandria, VA. All four are hoping to ride the whole way, but the two from Minneapolis have conceded they may be trailering until they get far enough south to ride.
I'd advise anyone who hasn't done a long ride to really think about this as it is an opportunity, but it's not for the weak cheeked. There are some very helpful tips and insights available here: http://www.ironbutt.com/tech/aowprintout.cfm
Considering the route and distance, I will be starting off collecting the necessary documents for my own submission for the Iron Butt Association's certificate. But, I'm not going to put my safety or sanity at risk to acheive it. If it works out, great. If not, I'm not going to worry about it.
