Posts: 2300 Georgia, west of Atlanta | New Indian: a modern, forged steel, one-piece, plain-bearing crankshaft. You can see the 35-tooth timing wheel on the end that has a missing tooth to identify TDC. A single crankpin accommodates two side-by-side connecting rods. This is a rugged piece.....Kevin Cameron, Cycle World editor. |

Yeah, it'd need a few more crank journals for that. Guess we'll have another V Twin, Hope it's a big one and maybe DOHC to distinguish it from the Victory engines.......... |

During Scott Wine's (CEO Polaris) interview the other day he specifically mentioned the current $35,000 price of the Indian was too high. I would expect a sub $30,000 price tag. |

Posts: 1632 Jasper, MO | I don't remember where I read it, but one of the magazines that announced the new Indian said that pricing would be comparable to HD and Victory. Low 80 horsepower at the wheel would be on par with the stock Victory 106. Maybe Lloyd will take a look at the new Indian motor too.

I am pretty sure those are the prices for the 2013's that are based off the Kings Mountain Bike. The "new" Indian (2013 1/2-2014?) have not been published yet. |

Posts: 2300 Georgia, west of Atlanta | The new Indian Motorcycle engine will be revealed during Daytona Beach Bike Week next month. The public is invited to see and hear the actual engine on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 9 p.m. (EST) at Dirty Harry?s Pub on Main Street in Daytona Beach, Florida. This will be the first place that the public can see and hear the engine that has been in development from a blank sheet of paper for the past two years.
So it's almost here, I'm going down on Monday the 11th so I'll make sure and go see the new engine sometime during BikeWeek........... |

Posts: 2300 Georgia, west of Atlanta | Looks pretty good I think, similar pushrod and cam arrangement to S&S X wedge engine: Pretty good numbers: Bore and stroke 101mm X 113mm equals out to 111 inches. Narrow angle 49 Degree Vtwin, 2 valve heads ( Pretty big valves ) Intake valves over 2 inches. One 54mm left side fuel injection throttle body with side draft induction. Looks to have very short stiff pushrods. 9.5 to 1 compression. I can see this engine making 90 HP and over 100 ft lbs of torque at the rear wheel stock. |

I also saw a completely stock 2013 ZX-14 that made 198HP.......In my class ( 105 to 128 cu inch ) there was a 145HP HD followed by another 139HP Harley, both were 124 inch engines I think.......... |

Posts: 3204 Memphis | Was blabbering on at work about the Indian 111 to one of my old H-D buddies. He Googled an article and looked at the pictures. "Thunderstroke. Cool name!" I was going on about how shocked I was at how old-school the motor looked. Parallel pushrods, 3-cams, down-firing exhaust, blah-blah-blah... He looked at it and said "Yeah, looks like they stole that look from the S&S X-Wedge." (A motor that a LOT of Harley guys really like.)
I said, "Well, if I had to guess, S&S got their inspiration from the 1940 Chief motor." and I pulled up some photos...
Dead silence................. (I LOVE these guys!) |

I have no doubt that the design team will do the brand proud with the rest of the bike. Things happen for a reason and now that my '08 Vision is history, I can see myself jumping on a first year Polaris Indian. Owning a Vision in 2007 was unreal. No one had ever seen one before. Owning one of the first Indians with that motor in it would be cool. I just happen to be forced into retirement next summer so it looks like the planets could be lining up for another cool chapter in my life story. Just sayin..... |

I was one of the jaded Indian non believers, but seeing the new engine in person changed my mind. I believe Polaris will make this work...There will be 3 major American made motorcycle manufacturers to choose from starting this summer.........Haven't had that since when ?? The 1930's ??

Posts: 1632 Jasper, MO | Cushman lasted until 1965. The short lived (and amazing) Crockers lasted until 1941. Other than them, all the majors were done by the 30's except Harley, which was saved by government contracts. The others all succumbed to the bad economy and war time material shortages. Not counting the later boutique makers like Boss Hoss, Big Dog, Ridley, etc and the failed attempts of revival like Excelsior-Henderson and Indian.
Indian is back to stay this time, I think.

| If you guys are considering a new Polaris Indian be prepared to shell out a significant amount of coin. Polaris has previously announced that they are keeping the pricing of the former Moorhead, NC Indian operation and a simple Indian Chief Classic started at $26,499 and went all the way up to $37,899 for the Indian Chief Vintage LE.
I guess Polaris has found the motorcycle brand equivalent to the H-D CVO line in order to complement their Victory line.
Now, if things change and they price things more reasonably, say around $15K to $16K to start I would say that they will end up selling A LOT of Indians for the first 4 to 5 years until people get over the novelty of it.

They have since said that the new Polaris designed production line models coming from the main plant will be competitively priced with Harley and Victory.
I can dream, can't I?
