Posts: 3204 Memphis | Not sure what Charlie put on his bike but I had these side firing LEDs on my bike and really liked them. They shoot through the edge of the strip instead of the "top". Not as bright as the big Audi/Mercedes running lights but very cool for outlining curves. They are unblievably thin and all but invisible when turned off. Can fit between body panels and light lenses. Super flexible. http://www.oznium.com/side-emitting-led-strip |

Posts: 1066 Peru, IN | SongFan --- How well do you think those would work for rear brake/turn signals? Seems that some LED strips are better suited for flashing than others. $40 or so is a sight cheaper than the $100+ for the "official" 99LEDbrakelight thing from Custom Dynamics. (Plus, theirs won't work as turn signals. 2 of these could be turn signals while the 3rd set could be brakes.) |

Posts: 3204 Memphis | Monkeyman, These won't work as a replacement for the 99 LED strip because they are side-firing. In this photo they are shooting to the right. Imagine taping these to your trunk lid. The LEDs would face down or up. You could not get them to fire out to the rear because they don't bend that way. These are for following an outline and projecting 90 degrees to how the strip is laying. This strip is about as thick as two credit cards stacked on top of each other so they are all but invisible when viewed head on. Oznium has the same LEDs as Custom Dynamics but they only have one strip of 3M tape instead of three. I think the wiring coming out of the LEDs is shorter also. They have a 38" strip (96 LEDS) for $38.99. You could order different lengths and colors to make the three separate strips you are talking about. Go to the drop down menu here: http://www.oznium.com/led-flex-strips I went with Custom Dynamics for one stop shopping on the prep pads and Posi-Taps. Oznium is definitely cheaper and they have great customer service.

Posts: 1066 Peru, IN | Thanks for the reply, Mike. (I know you're not Micheal Song but I don't know your real name so I'll just go with "Mike" for now.) I think I'll get something from Oznium. I have plenty of prep pads and Posi-Taps. I'm not worried about the leads being shorter than the CD version. I'll just solder more wire on. I need more light on the back of the trunk. I have that stupid lighted "VISION" chrome piece there now (waste of $100) but it doesn't fit right so I'll probably go back to the stock piece although I might paint it black (everything's getting the black treatment eventually). |
