Posts: 341 West Salem, WI United States | Hey guys, new to this forum. I am currently riding a 2008 Kingpin Tour, see below, but I am thinking about going to a Vision. I love the KP but I would like more wind protection to ride later into the year up here in WI.2008 Visions are priced the best of course, any reason to go newer? Any gotchas or things to look for? -Lance |

I don't where you are located but my trade in is in Gaineville woth tons of upgrades. No idea whst yhey are asking for it. I was told some electronic parts for 08 are hard to get by the dealer. May want to consider an 09 if you are trying to keep price down.

| i, also had a kp. i really liked it. yours is very sharp also. i wrecked mine, totaled.the insurance was good to me,so i was able to upgrade. after i decided to get a vision, i went to e-bay. that way you can easily compare apples with apples. I was thrilled to find a 09 in my price range with some upgrades. I really like my vision and get lots of complments. go for the upgrades, because,if like me that extra dough is hard to come by.happy hunting. obtw i havent had any prob. with mine. had 24k early summer, 31k now. my wife really enjoys the vision too!

Posts: 599 New Mexico | ABS and less frequent oil changes on the newer bikes, so I would go that route (2011 and up I believe).
But.. I Love my 2009 Premium. Gave them a year to work out the bugs, but still has the little nice things like shock absorber openers on my side bags. And transmission gear indicator works all the time, regardless of the condition of the clutch lever. HID standard.
Any year you pick will be satisfying, with the only question you will be asking yourself is 'Why didn't I do this sooner!'

Are the more frequent oil changes with dino oil only or with synthetic as well? |

OK, believe me, you DO NOT want this to turn into an oil thread - So I will say the Service Manual assumes you will be using Victory Engine Oil. My 2009 'Periodic Maintenance Interval Table' says to replace the oil and filter every 2500 miles. In 2011 or 2012 Victory changed something in the transmission which allowed them to adjust the oil change interval to 5000 miles.

2500 miles with official Vic oil
3500 miles with semi synthetic
4000 miles with full synthetic
8500 miles with AMSOIL (because it's the best damn oil out there...your bike will last longer and you'll get 20-25 mpg more...plus chicks dig it!)
[just kidding about all that.] |

Posts: 1308 Sand Rock, AL United States | I love my 2008. I haven't had any trouble out of it but the 2011 was the first year of the new geared tranny, I believe, less frequent oil changes. a 2008 with 20K on it was good for me becasue previous owner put a lot of stuff on it made it a real value for me plus it had enough miles that it was more likely to have any problems or recalls addressed. |

Thanks. Auto recommendations used to be 3000 miles (and in some dealers still are) which was a waste of money and oil unless extreme use. Then they went to 5,000 with no changes, which is why I asked. |

Are the more frequent oil changes with dino oil only or with synthetic as well? THe newer trans doesn't make the oil last longer it just makes it easier to find neutral with older (more miles) oil. From the Victory website - Victory has a track record of consistently outstanding reliability and dependability, which has led to the industry’s highest customer satisfaction ratings. This proven reliability, along with the new transmission design, allows Victory to recommend extended oil service intervals for 2011 drivetrains. • The recommended oil change interval for 2011 models is every 5,000 miles. • Less-frequent oil changes results in a lower cost of ownership. We asked Victory engineer James Holroyd to comment on some of the changes in 2011. Regarding reliability, James says “This important improvement was made possible by the new transmission and its neutral-finder. Previous oil change intervals were dictated by oil breakdown making neutral harder to find at higher mileages. The neutral finder eliminates this problem, and allows you to get the full use out of your oil.” |

And there you have it, right from the horses mouth. The oil IS BREAKING DOWN. The bandaid approach was to add a neutral finder instead of specifying a better oil.
Some of us who have been using a premium full synthetic oil have been going 5000 miles per change in Victory motorcycles for over 12 years now. No neutral finder needed. We figured out the problem, and the solution, a long time ago.

Posts: 63 Calgary, AB, | Yep, on my '08, I can tell by 1500 miles from oil change, whether I've got a synthetic or non. I've used Vic brand oil, some other standard oil and Amsoil synthetic. The sound, gear changes and neutral finding give it away, sometimes even by 1000 miles since an oil change. |

Posts: 30 Carlisle, PA | I've had my '08 Vision for 3 months now and have been riding as much as I can. I hit the limit yesterday, 41 degrees, no extra clothing other than a a leather coat with hoodie sweatshirt under it. It was cold, but certainly much better than my previous bike. I think the Vision wind protection is great, even without lower air deflectors. |

Yep, I had a 40/20 rule - At some point during the ride the temp had to hit at least 40deg, and no part of the ride under 20 deg (even with lowers). But... I have since abandoned that rule. I just pile on another layer and let er' go!

And you hit the nail on the head but DO NOT rule out NEW previous year models still hangin around. Keep an eye on MaVic's web for current rebates and find out what dealer has what available. Won't bore you with the details, but found a new 2011 in October off the showroom for less then many used 10's and 11's to include the 5 year power train and the 500 back in accesory's with the 4.2 financing. I thought the deal was too good to be true but it wasnt. Im not saying there are some good deals on some used 11's, etc.. .Just saying do your research and know the rebates applicable, know what you want, what your willing to pay and be ready to move.. Mine ALMOST caught me off guard and the purchase happend so fast I didnt have a chance to even think about selling my TC... Darn the luck... LOVE MY VISION!!!!
As for what year model used and what really matters, this is what KevinX wrote when I asked your question back then:
12 has ABS, quieter transmission, and neutral finder going for it. not to mention things like warranty
10 has the older more noisy trans, but I like the way it shifts better. It also has the later electronic interface stuff; so all the bells can be hooked up[including Iphone with charging]. If you are not worried about ABS. This is the one I would buy.
08 would be okay, but it would have to be a great deal. Vic no longer sells the interface stuff for things like plug and play GPS
good luck and keep us posted!

Posts: 143 Lexington Park, MD | Hmmm, just looked at cycle trader and looks like my bikes sidekick is still up for sale. With current rebate of -2500 I think they said they would let this go for 17,800 plus TTL(disregard the cycletrader price), AND WAIT, theres more, if your Military or prior Military, they also took the FST and dropped it another 1000 to 16,800. I bought the white one in the background for a little less after some debating / haggeling. Good folks to work with and they were straight forward. Looks like the warrenty is 3yr now. I lucked out and got the 5yr power. If anyone wants more info before contacting them shoot me a PM. The bike had no blemishes on it when I was there and never run. Not a demo. Food for thought... The only thing better than owning a Victory Vision is TWO! But I still love my TC...

| Have a close look at a few bikes. Later models have more features such as ABS, reverse and helical gears in the transmissions. Early bikes came in comfort and premium models. Comfort models did not have electrical operated windscreens, HID lights and less chrome. Check out 2008 models for cracked headlights. Current bikes have painted round handle bars and less chrome the early premium bikes. Reverse can be fitted on 2010 models and later. There have been a few upgrades to the sound system. Some early brushed aluminium panels have been replaced by plastic.
The usual thing of newer are usually dearer but worth more in resale and options already fitted are a better buy than paying full price to get them after purchase. Find one you love and good luck. |
