Hey, all.

This problem has been getting worse... has been going on for about 6 weeks.

I start up my bike after work. I let it idle for 3-5 minutes. I gently run it about 500 yds to the traffic light, where I always sit for a minute or two. Then I turn onto a divided highway and run at 70-75 mph.

About a half mile to a mile down the road, I start to lose power. If I let go of the throttle and hold the clutch, the engine stops and I coast. I can start again by using my momentum to fire up the engine. Repeat one or two more times. The second or third try, I get a huge backfire and the engine runs well the rest of the way home.

I have also noticed that my fuel economy is 'way down.... about 30 mpg.

2008 Vision Tour premium, full stock.

Any ideas about what I shoould look at?

Thanks.

Two thoughts. How old is your air filter? A dirty air filter could cause some of those symptoms. Check the fuel pump pressure. It might be getting weak.

Loud backfire comes from weak eletrical or coil or spark plugs.
So how old is the battery loose conection or plugs being old.
Maybe fuel pump but I dought that.

Yup....time to check fuel pump. Insufficient pressure to atomoze the fuel causes low MPG, and loud backfire comes from reintroducing spark; to a flooded chamber. Should have 49psi

So. I just had my fuel pump replaced, courtesy of the fuel gauge float drowning. Shouldn't be that. I threw up my hands and took my baby to the stealer. He claimz that it was the voltage regulator... for $300 diagnostics parts and labor

I'm inclined to agree. Anyone care to warn me I've been sold a bill of goods?

Ummmm...yea.......not seeing it causing a performance loss issue without wildly swinging volt needle. Also there is an axiom in the repair bizz....New breaks too; that's why they make things everyday

When you say loss of power, do you mean the bike is sluggish and anemic, or the electrical system is momentarily shutting down?

Re-reading this thread. I have to ask the same thing myself
