I put it in 1st let out the clutch a little to move forward a short distance. Maybe I'm stll rolling with clutch disengaged or maybe I stopped. Such as in stop and go traffic or as you pull out of gas station to edge of road to look for traffic before proceeding. Many times in a day, I find that its in neutral and not still in 1st. A real pain in the ass when you expect power but there is none. Almost tipped over a couple times.

Dealer installed longer shifter linkage due to me moving shifter to max forward position but this did not deminish the frequency that it falls ot of 1st. It does not fall out of any other gear but first and ONLY under the circumstances as outlined above.

Any ideas?

the lever on the shifter shaft may need to be positioned up another knotch, if I understand you correctly.

The ONLY thing I have found a little different shifting wise on the VV in the first couple thousand miles vs my TC is 1st and 2nd being a solid shift. Just rode my TC before jumping on the VV to come to work and think it is a bit longer "stroke" if that is way to describe it putting it in 1st. Trying to describe it, if I step down on 1st and you can hear a clunk grab but if you don't follow through you could still pull back up in Neutral. Again, this was me coming off a 04TC with a heal shifter to boot and the trannys feel different. I have since ensure I step on 1st and when going to 2nd a solid up stroke of the boot with no issues since. Would just chock it up to getting to know the bike but it may be an adjustment. I'm satisfied learning the bike. Have never experienced it JUMPING out of first only hesitant to go in intiailly. Hope this helps

On my '12 Vision (same tranny as the OP), I hear a clunk into 1st loud enough to wake the neighbors. If you DON'T hear that, something's wrong. It's gotten a tad bit quieter as the bike is slowly getting broken in (c'mon spring!) but it's still VERY noticable.
