This is a question about riding to Alaska. I know Rollin had a run flat on the rear, and wanted a better tire on the front of the bike. I wanted to do the ride this year, as some of you know, but I was unable to due to life events getting in the way. Anybody have any other suggestions about riding to the 49th state?

I-5 North to the border, ALCAN to Haines Junction get on the Alaska State Ferry, get off @ Seward, proceed. Or get on the boat in Bellingham WA. and see the inside passage. (The Malespenna has a bent prop shaft and vibrates bad enough to make you hold on to your plates in the stern restaurant dining area)
You cannot ride to Juneau or Ketchikan, no roads.

Couple things. First, I probably wouldn't do it in the middle of January. Second, riding from CONUS to Alaska is old hat. If you really want a story to tell your grandkids, ride from CONUS to the 50th state.

Where in Alaska? The road to Fairbanks isn't bad. North of Fairbanks it gets interesting.
All the roads to Hyder are paved.

That would be a great story to tell the grandkids. I think I will probably travel to Hawaii in the more traditional mode of transportation, an airplane. Also, I don't plan on doing the trip in January, I'm currently thinking of doing it the last week of June, first week of July.

I know the feeling.

Rollin, I would like to do the ride from Key West, FL. to Prudhoe bay, AK. I can't find that post on here about the cover that was put on your headlights to protect them from rock chips. If I remember correctly it was some kind of 3m product?
I would like to do an IBA, UCC this summer. That's the plan unless some other event happens that shoots it down.

Rollin' --- Do you get any odd distortion with the headlight guard? As much as the OEM headlight assembly is, it would be worth $50 unless it throws the lights off.

"I know the feeling"

You were stranded for 6 days on the Alcan due to a dam break south of you and a river washout of the Alcan both of you too??? Just glad we had a place to stay. 1000's had to live in their cars for the week, little or no food. Thought I was the only one

No distortion. I did a lot of riding at night and had no issues with it.

That sounds like an awesome trip, I want to go a little North of Fairbanks though. I will need the extra gas, I think the Rotopax is the way to go. Key West, FL to Prudhoe Bay, AK. I think I might be able to do the whole thing in fifteen days. That includes riding from the PNW, to Key West, and then start North. We will see, something could come up again. It's all academic till it is completed.

There are some great videos of the Dalton Highway on YouTube.

This one shows the Yukon River Crossing. It's a wooden bridge. The Yukon River Crossing Camp is also the first of only 3 gas stops on the Dalton Highway.

You do not want to miss any of the gas stops and this one is easy to miss. I talked to three riders that missed it. This is just south of the Arctic Circle -
