Posts: 444 Bay of Gigs, WA | Saturday Oct. 6th, a day of infamy. Heavy traffic, another bike encroaching, trying to join me in my lane, 30 mph, AKA 44fps, 1/2 second look away, back to catch the guy in front dynamiting his brakes, me in the left side of the left lane wishing there wasn't a bunch of construction gravel on the roadway when I hit my brakes and the front end washes out and momentum sending me into the back of the Nissan pickup in front of me, 900 pounds of Vision bending his bumper and tailgate quite a bit. Liability insurance will pick up the tab for his truck, but liability won't pay for my vic. Boohoo. What was a brilliant economic savings 15 minutes earlier turned into a not so good way to save a buck. So, as my friend said, "It's been shown that the front of a bike usually gets to the wreck first." And everything forward of the windshield is-um-mostly missing, I need to ask this: Has anybody been rear-ended? Where does one pick up all those parts that make the pronounced proboscis of the Vision so unique? I've looked online, but craigslist is devoid of those sorts of things. |

Posts: 495 Carrollton, TX | Chris, I am so sorry to hear about your accident but glad you are ok. All the Vision's I know of that have been totaled have sustained major front end damage even a couple that were rear ended and pushed into something in front of them. I would think the major insurance companies would have some they totaled but not sure how to get a hold of the right person. |

Posts: 444 Bay of Gigs, WA | Bruised my hip and my ego. Rubbed some dirt in them, good to go. Wreck would have killed a mortal. Luckily I had Triple A. Swear by those guys. They took the bike and me home. Got up the next morning and was gratified that it started right up, turn signals still work as does the expensive HID light. Headlights probably would too, except they're MIA. I think the forks are okay, don't know yet as it's started raining. Still, many a chopper started out like this, yes?...JV, thanks for the ebay tip, I'll be checking them out!

I looked for a lot of Vision parts but didn't see any front end stuff. As it was suggested, give them a call. There are other salvage yards that might have a rearended Vision you could get cheap. |

Posts: 444 Bay of Gigs, WA | I know there are some threads on here about how to get all the plastic off without ruining it. Do I just need a set of those nylon pry bar thingys? I downloaded the service manual, so I'm sure all I need to know is in there, but Radioteacher used to do such good vids, maybe I'll hunt up his stuff. Anyway, I put on my own socks today, so the massive contusion and hematoma is finally subsiding. It's been ten days and my whole leg is black & blue. But I can bend it now, so it's on the mend. When I hit the ground, I apparently jiggled a cap and activated an old abscess, so I had a root canal three days ago. Hey, what's an injury without an insult, right? And Like that other idiot, Gary Busey, who became an advocate for helmets right after he slammed into an oncoming Monte Carlo, I henceforth recommend full coverage on these things, as they're increasingly not appearing to be a cheap fix.
Signed;

Posts: 1066 Peru, IN | I have full coverage now because the bank owns it. Once it's paid off, I'll keep full coverage (with a higher deductable) until it's gone. If it was a generic bike where parts were cheap and plentiful, it would be a different story. Hell, I've still got full coverage on my '04 Blazer and it's generic and paid off. I can't afford to buy another truck for cash so it's better to have slightly higher insurance premiums. If I ever move to the warm, sunny south, I'll put liability only on the truck. |

Posts: 1365 Central Maryland | I maintain full coverage as well on all of my vehicles and bikes, paid off or not. It's really not that much more in the grand scheme of things; the liability portion of your vehicle insurance (mandatory) is the most costly; out of the other electable coverages anyway.... |

Posts: 444 Bay of Gigs, WA | Got on hinshawsmotorcyclestore.com this weekend as per the parts guys instructions, hit parts finder and realized why I'm gonna pay for full coverage from now on, and why it's a bad idea to run into the back of pickup trucks on the freeway. Yikes. I quit counting when the plastic parts hit 3 grand, and it might hit 4 before I'm done. I'd kick my own ass if it wasn't still a bit sore from the -er-altercation. Gonna try the rides safely .com site, thanks for the tip. Gotta say that's one good thing about Hawgs-they're bellybuttons, relatively easy to fix. |

Posts: 444 Bay of Gigs, WA | Yeah. It was a major eye opener for me! The fairing thing behind your lighted Victory logo is nearly $500.00! Per side! I may break out the fiberglass and start building that REAL Bozo nose the bike resembles anyway, LOL |

Posts: 1066 Peru, IN | I keep full coverage on anything I don't have the cash to replace. My Blazer is an '04 (and paid off) but I don't have the cash to buy another truck similar to it if it was totaled so I keep full coverage on it although with a slightly higher premium than I did when I was paying for it. The bank still owns my Vision so I obviously have to keep full coverage on that but even once that's paid for (only 70 payments to go!!), I won't do more than increase the deductible on the comp/collision. |

Posts: 2027 Brighton, TN | tally up your parts lists and then hit up a couple of dealers and see if they will cut you a few percent over their costs. They can still make a few dollars for very little output. Have the part numbers handy too. I seem to have good luck perusing and agitatiing dealers to give me a break.
Yukon XL rear ended an 18 wheeler, roughed up the front end. Went to the local dealer and talked to the parts guy and he cut the price on the parts and I bought all I needed for probably 500 over used, if that. Then it is all new parts. Just a try. |

Posts: 444 Bay of Gigs, WA | I don't think the forks moved on mine either. It was on the tipovers and I think slid under the bumper of the truck with the forks. There's a dent in the bottom of the windshield where the guys trailer hitch center punched it, but even though the handlebars loosened themselves up and just rotate independently of the forks, I think they escaped. The front fender is unscathed-get this-on other threads there seems to be a problem with them breaking on the mounting points, but even after my altercation, the fender is pristine still. Go figure! |
