Posts: 367 Cottage Grove, Mn | Went on a group ride in the beautiful Wisconsin county side and it was spoiled by three glass A$$ Harley riders who absolutely insisted on stopping every 50 miles to stretch their legs and get the numbness out of their backsides. One actually left the trip early because his backside hurt so badly.
WTH is up with that? On the bright side one did comment that they didn?t have all the leg room and comfort the Vision has.
Never again; the glass A$$?s will have to find their on ride.

Posts: 2300 Georgia, west of Atlanta | It WAS the riders not the bikes, yeah a EG or RG is not as comfortable as a VV but they arent't THAT bad. I just got back from a 7000+ mile trip with 5 other guys all on HD baggers, we stopped every 150-180 miles for gas. No complaints from them or me. Woulda gone 200+ between stops except one bike had a 5 gallon tank.........
Oh Yeah, traded with a friend for about 350 miles one day, he only said "Man this thing is comfortable and it'll haul ass too" ..........

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | I'm never one to get out and ride much, but I do like to ride just for the fun of it. When I have rode with someone riding something other than a Vision, I expect the frequent. Gold Wingers will want to stop every hour for "safety" reason. Harley riders will want to stop because of fuel or comfort reason. The only exception to that was when I rode along with a Navy Seal on his Harley. We both got about the same distance on a tank of gas, and would stop every 2 1/2 hours. He endured the pain, because an "Iron Butt" was suppose to hurt. We were doing it for a worthy cause also. So, yes, you have to ride their ride, or ride alone or find another Vision rider to ride with. |

More Iron Butt rides have been completed on Harley's than any other manufacturer.
A lot of records have also been set by riders on Harley's. - http://www.ironbutt.com/rides/rideslogin.cfm
The most miles in one year - 141,757 miles in less than one year - HD-FXPT
Over 20,000 miles in less than 20 days - One bike on that list - HD
Over 30,000 miles in less than 30 days - Four bikes on that list and two are HD's. |

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | When I did the RedWing19 there were a lot of Harleys, some where modified just to do Iron Butts. But there you go Steve, bringing facts into the picture. Of course, it's the rider.
When I attempted documenting my first Iron Butt, I did about 1,037 miles in 19 hours on my 84 Gold Wing. It hurt, and I was tired and I was glad to see 1,000 miles when I got to Baton Rouge. Two years later I have my Vision and I make the same trip and I'm in Winnie, Tx after 19 hours, some 1,250 miles and I didn't want to stop. The prevailing winds and storms led me to stop at Winnie for the night. Found out the next day the interstate had flooded and would have been passible. Same rider, same trip, same determination, two different bikes.
While I do all the steps for the trip on the Gold Wing, I've never sent in the paper work.
I would love to have the opportunity to roll 141,757 miles in one year. |

Posts: 1632 Jasper, MO | Yep, it was the riders and not the bikes. That said, I have never found a more comfortable bike than the Vision. The GL1500 and GL1800 Goldwings come close. Their only downfall comfort-wise is the fixed foot position, which sneaks up on us older riders pretty quickly. I have friends who can log the miles on their Ultra Glides with the best of them too, but as someone already mentioned, the HD and Goldwing riders always want to stop for a stretch before I'm ready to on my Vision. I can make them hurt. It ain't me--it's the bike.
We've swapped bikes a few times and they have admitted that the Vision is more comfortable than either the HD or Goldwing. It's a toss-up as to which group is more brand loyal. Neither are willing to give up their choice in rides. The GW riders are as stubborn and drink as much Kool-Aide as the HD riders. Their loss, but that is what lets both HD and Honda sell the same bike for 12+ years. To be fair, the Vision is so good that Victory could probably sell the same basic bike for a dozen years too, and probably will.

Seems like they can't pass up a strip club either.Seriously though not all are wooses,or posers, lots of hard core Harley riders.Funny thing they're the ones who really appreciate the Vision for what it is and not necessarily the looks. I love riding with my Harley bretheren,Vicsters or solo, doesn't matter.

Posts: 8144 New Bohemia, VA | Yessir! I will agree. I know some true to the bone riders also, just don't get to ride with them or see them often. Those are the ones who really appreciate the passion of riding. I met another one the other day that I hope to ride with, when he gets his Victory. He rode many years on various Harley's and does an average of 20,000 miles or more. Right now he's got other things to contend with, personal issues and family problems. He wants to get back in the saddle again. We had an elevator conversation, then a continued foyer coversation on Victory. He knows the Vision and did reading up on them because he knew me as "that guy that rides all the time." He commented that it must be comfortable and that is what he is shooting for. He's too old, my age, to be putting up with all the pain of riding. |

The most miles (documented) on the same bike - 1,005,830 miles in 19 years on a 1991 HD FXRT.
He's the same guy that rode 141,757 miles in a year. He also rode 104,678 miles in 2004. |

I think I met this dude down at Daytona a couple years ago. If it's the same guy, he says he changes engines about every 200,000 miles on average.....It was a HD FXRT. |

When we filled up we would be within .1 of a gallon of each other at the pump. Find some new compadres to ride with lol... |

That term was widely used in the tire business for someone you could not make happy with the ride of their tires

She had a sore butt cheek and my back has been a handful all week. My point is, miss the F'n chuck holes. I did not see it soon enough to spare our pain. I do not ride with groups and only two H-d's ever ride next to me. Nothing against H-D but I love doing the throttle roll-ons and leaving them with there bug catching mouths wide open LOL.

I lost him good on the exit as it slalom around to RT 1. He finally caught up to me, and I was wearing my face bandana. As he pulled up along side me at the light he says, "Man, you ride that thing like you stole it!!" I replied, "How do you know I didn't?" With that the light turns green.... |

I find the view from near the front of the pack to be beautifull when in a long sweeping curve ,look in the mirrors to see all those bikes leaned over in formation . Has to be one of my thrills. But I do have lots of skilled riders to travel with. Solo riding also has it benefits. My schedule, my speed, no set destination.
Ride often, Ride safe. |
