| OK, so Im looking for the best bang for the buck. I want good sound but not so loud I wake the neigbors.
What are your opinions? I have heard the Thunder sticks, but cant find where to buy them. Then I heard the Adam bombs, also nice. Then I saw a fellow visioner make his own out of a stock set, removing the baffles. Im more confused now!!

| I have been debating a change too. I just want a little more sound than my S1L2 Victory mufflers put out. Problem for me is I need to source the heat shields to make that happen. But I will watch this thread closely.
Money is a bit tight. Maybe after I sell the 1" lowering stuff I have.

I like my Ness Honkers, only loud when you roll on the throttle.
As for the Thunder Sticks...pretty sure you can get them from Lloydz |

| S1's are pretty quiet for sure.
I have been thing of blocking off the cross over cause I feel we have a 2 into 1 right now. I barley hear any thing out the left side and that side never pops.
You can listen all you want to the exhaust on youtube but you hear to much motor sound and not true exhaust sound. |

Phantom, what do you mean drilling out the baffle?
That little hole down the middle of the exhaust, if you take about a 24" extension and I think a 1" or 1.5" steel hole saw and run it down that tube you will come in contact with the baffle wall. When you do, drill and it will knock a hole in it opening up the flow. Right now the air comes down the exhuast and then hits that wall and flows over the outside of that tube (where you just inserted said hole saw), that tube has little tiny holes in it to release the air (and it's usually packed with something like fiberglass) to dampen the sound. When you drill out the baffle more air goes down the exhaust pipe and less air into the fiberglass and out the little holes.
if that makes any sense. Either way you get more noise that way and it sounds pretty good...

Posts: 262 Flowery Branch Ga | I just did the Witchdoctor Muscle mufflers. Loud when you get on it, mellow enough at cruising to just barely hear the valves and transmission. Cost $200 plus shipping, plus refundable core charge. Easy enough to do at home if you have the time. (I didn't, so I took it to the dealer.) No other stuff needed when you do the install. Other than noise I can't tell the difference from stock. |

Posts: 1290 Ruskin, Fl | I drilled mine out and disconnected the O2 sensors per KevinX's instrustion when I picked up my 2013. I still miss my big honkers, but it cost me $30 for a hole saw and extension (that I get to keep and use again) as opposed to 450 for Honkers. Kevin told me 1 1/8 hole. Sounds way better than stock. I haven't rode behind it yet, but my buddy that like it too loud for my taste says it sounds good from behind when I get on the throttle. |

I gutted the stock pipes.....I think its plenty loud. Cost me a couple hours of time, a few beers and a cutting disc or two. |

| Ok I'll bite on this post. Here is my story about pipes and my 08 vision. I started stock, then the S1L2 loved the chrome but too quiet. Then came the Adom Bombs sounded good but I didn't like the chrome shields. I then added cams, fuel controller, intake. I cut the inside out of the S1L2 pipes, sounded ok but at the same time I drilled holes in the honeycomb/catalytic product. The down side was just like KevinX predicted, a loss of a little low end torque in 6th. The sound was good.
I then got another set of S1L2 and wrapped the baffle pipe with fiberglass and zip tied it in place like I'd seen on some high end custom Harley pipes at Sturgis. The end result is the right combination of flow and back pressure for torque. Basically it makes the L1S2 into a straight pipe with the glass to dampen it a bit, the low end torque in 6th is back and the sound is the loudest I've heard on any of the pipes. I do have a hardly used set of Adom Bombs I will sell and a set of L1S2 chromes also for sale. This project is done and I'm very happy on my 08 vision.

| I agree on the D&D's personally...they are actual large PIPES and not some small straw with huge heat shields wrapped around!!...my only problem w them is they're not LONG enough!!...if you look at the chrome slash cut pipes on a vision they are 1/2" shy of being flush w the end of the bike/bags...why is that??....I prefer the pipes to extend out past the bags anywhere from a 1/2"-1"...would d&d make a set of custom pipes like that?...or is it gonna hafta be a total one-off custom job??... |

| Update: I purchased a set of D&D slash cut and LOVE them!!!!....they are UNBAFFLED and LOUDDDD!...the only noticeable thing about removing the baffles is the sound....while they are loud as shit , I noticed that the sound is a bit louder out of the right side pipe than the left...primarily bc the right side is more of a straighter shot than the left...I believe there isn't enough back pressure to push exhaust over to the left pipe, so the right is louder...as for performance, it still runs great and I'm willing to lose a small amount of hp for the increase in sound!!...in all, I recommend the D&D's...they're worth the money!....Bigdawg |
